Just finished building the following MONSTER -all ok bar a few littel hiccups . . .

Asus Maximus Extreme MB
DDR3 @ 1333Mhz
QX6850 Extreme
Windows XP
RAID 10 Raptors etc etc

1 main problem is that with the MB came an add-in Sound Card - it dont work - the drivers load - the software loads windows recognises when the machine boots too and installs it successfully - but Windows XP cant get the damn thing to work! In Control Panel "Sound & Audio Devices" it says that no audio device is connected.

I have installed, removed and reinstalled - played with the BIOS - enabled/disabled the Audio thingy there too - no joy!

So I also have an EMU 404 PCI card - same thing - it all loads and windows recognises it being installed when it boots and installs it successfully - but windows says the same thing and it dont work either - conclusion - a windows problem.

Obviously I am fully uptodate with all drivers and bios (1001) and windows updates.

Interestingly when each card is plugged in (not at the same time) and I go device manager/properties it says that the drivers have been installed but are not enabled - what is that all about?

Also there are no yellow circles in device manager - everything thing that should be there is there!

HELP - b4 I go sort myself out with a USB solution!!!!

Khushy

PS- the board came with BIOS 0604 installed - it did all the above with that installed so I thought I would update that and the same again - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh

no output from either soundcard . . .

but as I said earlier - both devices install fine!

OC says that I should try reinstalling windows WITH the Asus Sound Card physically in place!

I've had a similar problem, I can't remember exactly how I cured it, but it was a setting pointingbto wrong card in Sounds within control panel or something sorry its vague but I'm at work

Just one thing having read your post the add on card is supposed to be in the upper slot above the graphics card in the small slot. Is it?

In the Bios have you enabled The Sound Card ah I see u have leave it enabled?

Have you cleared the bios settings after you flashed the bios and set the defaults then reslect what you required?

Try rebooting then go back into control panel system devices and right mouse click at top next computer icon, and select scan for hardware changes.

is this a fresh install of windows? Or did you simply plug in your old HD and hope windows would detect the rest?

ok ok - I have sorted it with a REINSTALLATION of WXP with the bleedin card in there from the start - how cr@p is that - anyway - we have sound!
