help please! backing up

hi, happy new year to all !!! :cool:

ok so my sister just came to me and said her pc wont start, i turned it on and yes it wont start, i checked and noticed the motherboard didnt beep on startup, so after a few more checks i figured the motherboard is dead and need new one.
i would like to wipe her hard drive clean and start from fresh but....after plugging it into my pc to get the files pics music etc from her hdd it reconises on startup and in bios but wont let me boot my own pc into windows.
am i missing somthing silly here ?
the hdd is set to slave, powered up!! plugged in ide
im not to fussed if i cant !!!!! but she really wants her holiday pics etc awww

maybe try a usb to IDE cable, so its seen as a removable disc, it may not be very fast but it may work

Have you checked the disk boot priority in the BIOS?

have thought about usb to ide cable but that means going out ot buy one !!!

ok so i came up with a master plan that didnt quite work!!!
i realised that my old external opitcal drive must use ide to usb so i took it apart and it worked, i got into the hard drive but....i cant get into my sisters documents with warning saying not accessible access denied.
any ideas howto get around this

Need to rebuild the security policies for the folders, can't remember how, googling will bring it up.

thanks dude yes a quick search on google doen the job, had to go into safemode and administrator go to folder i wanted to openb and properties and change owenership.
i must say tho my sis has a lot of poo on this thing !!!!!!
