Hi guys, a major problem with my newish build :(
It contains the following

Case: Inwin901
MB: ASUS Maximus VI Impact Z87 ITX
CPU: i7-4770k (not overclocked)
GPU: Asus GTX 770 2GB
RAM: Cosair Vengence Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866
PSU: SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 650W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply – Black
Hard drives: I have 2 x 500GB HD and 1 x 250 SSD
Intake Fan: Corsair AF120 Performance Edition 120mm
Cooler: Cosair H60i

OS: Dual boot with windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14:04

Even on boot the bios shows a temp rising to 66C and using windows 8.1 just web browsing & using excel the temp can rise to 88deg! The MB temp is showing 28C and GPU is showing 36C

Ubuntu shows lower temps as less drain on the CPU and right now I am CPU is 51C, nothing running but Chrome.

I have checked the fans and all are installed correctly and air flow the correct way. The CPU is idling at 1%. CPU fan @ 2340RPM. The cooler is attached correctly, nothing loose, unless I made a mistake on the build.

Now I am aware that the case is a bit of a disaster for air flow, but temps that high? Its strange that its just becoming a problem now as a months ago I had no issue and was playing Crysis 3 on high settings

Any thoughts?? :(

Hi ,

Got to be a cooler connection problem mate. I have another i5 4670K low profile air cooled in the kids build in the tiny'er inwin BM639 case and it idles late 20's early 30's and around 55 full load.

Try taking the H60 head mount off the CPU and rotate it 90 degrees. It happened when i fitted my H100i to this system. They then dropped to correct temps.

hi MCstylist,
its odd as I have tried pump connection on different 3 pin connectors on the MB and no difference. When I touch the pipes they are noticeably hotter near the CPU than the fan so I guess its the pump or connection. As I type, with just chrome open its idles at 66C and got to 100C. I thought it shuts down at 90C?

Will do as you say and report back?
(Might put the stock cooler on for the time being)

ok, took it off and rotated around 90deg, new thermal compound and attached.

Temps still high. hmmm

One thing i do notice is that one pipe is noticeably hotter than the other, Does this signify anything?

Thanks for your response!

Ok I have the plugged the pump into the CPU_Fan header and it starts fine These are the readings I get in the BIOS

Pump into CPU_FAN -> Speed: ~4680
Fan into CHA_FAN -> Speed: ~2093

Pump into CHA_FAN -> Speed: ~4720
Fan into CPU_FAN -> Speed: ~2060

so looks like both are registering. No difference in temps. While I type this email with nothing else running, I am see a temp of ~70 across all 4 cores. Max in last 30mins has been 100C, min 67C

As for the vibration, well its very hard to tell. I think there is a tiny vibration. Impossible to hear as the fan and intake fan dominate the noise emitted from the machine

Baffled!

Now I have noticed that one pipe is definitely hotter than the other. Does than signify anything? Should I put the intel stock cooler on for now and just get a new cooler?

ok just to update. I have put back on the stock Intel cooler, taken off the 120mm fan from the Corsair H60 and just used that as an exhaust fan. There is also space for a 92m fan so i have put that on there too. The case manufacturer suggest that only a 92mm fan is used but can't see any harm in also adding a 120mm fan.

The temps are now reading ~39C and max of ~63C. So it's as you guys suggested: the H60 pump is probably faulty.

Ok question now is, what aircooler will I buy. Any thoughts: I was thinking about the Thermalright AXP-200R, but its a 140 fan, nor sure if it will fit.

Or perhaps the Zalman CNPS8900 Quiet?

Also do you guys think the fan from the H60 is fine as a exhaust fan?

Hey Resa69, whats "rma" mean ?

Taken from Wikipedia :

" A return merchandise authorization (RMA) is a part of the process of returning a product in order to receive a refund, replacement, or repair during the product's warranty period "

Contact where you bought the H60i, if it's within its 1 year warranty and they should give you a rma number to send it back for a replacement.

If it is within 14 days of buying the H60i you can ask for a replacement, or a refund, as long as you bought it online ( distance selling regulations )

ahh great. Bought from Amazon. already contacted them. They will refund the amount. Thats cool

Just trying to find an alternative aircooler that will actually fit this case. There is only 130mm from MB to glass panel so something like the Noctua NH-D14 or D15 are out and if I get the other style like the Noctua NH-C12P I doubt that the fans size high enough to avoid the the RAM sticks

Perhaps the Noctua NH-U9B is the right choice, hmmmm

This is going to sound like a very silly question, but when you fitted the H60i, did you check for a transparent plastic cover over the heatsink mating surface and remove it if present?

42C on idle but 95C running wPrime v2.10 :eek:

Need to really get a proper cooler. Thinking air cooler might be better but choices severely limited due to space restrictions

There's nothing wrong with the AIO water coolers, especially if you are space restricted. You were just unlucky and had a faulty one. Why not just get another?

Well surprisingly, when the H60 was working I didn't see a whole lot of difference from the temps compared to the stock cooler. However the choices were / are options

Intake: 120mm intake fan
+ Options ...
A) use H60 only
B) 120mm Aircooler + 120mm exhaust fan

I think under load the water cooler starts to outperform the air cooler for my set up

One thing is certain though, the water cooler is noisier than aircooler, maybe this is because it is externally mounted dunno
