 So last night, PC started to have minor graphics issues solved by a simple refresh (right click on desk top)
Then they got worse and covered the screen. looks like white out on a tv but with colours spread out within it.

Updated GFX driver, system restored to much earlier date, checked physical connection GFX to board, restored to earliest known good settings, ran FSecure check on all disks, started in safe mode and changed settings, tried all these one at a time
NO GO!

Card is a Leadtek 6800GT, Mobo is a Soltek Golden Flame, 1Gb Geil Value, XP SP2,

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Put this in general as I have no way of knowing if the GFX card is the issue, could be mobo??

Looks kinda like the memory on the graphics card may be at fault... I had a similar thing when mine died... Not sure how you can check it short of running something like 3DMark and specifically telling it to test the memory functionality - I think it can do that...

fraid my thoughts are being reflected here, will get the card to another pc tonight with luck, hope it's not the card tho, £300 down the drain! not good when I got no dough to replace it just now.

Can't run 3DMark in safe mode can I?, in normal start up the screen is too corrupted to do anything on it, and I dont got a floppy these days so Memtest is out too!

Send me to a dark room and let me curl up n die! :(

I don't think you can run from safe mode. I am curious tho, you don't get the problem in safe mode? Try totally unistalling all the drivers and the card and then try re-installing - see what happens...

You can make a MEMTEST bootable CD without too much trouble or a USB Memory Stick...

problem is not that safe mode sorts the issue, just that with no level of graphics it doesn't happen, but with any sort of driver installed it don't like it!
can't even show wallpaper!, also it doesn't always work in safe mode

Have tried all options with drivers in/out/shake it all about etc..........

got a link for Memtest on CD? last time I tried to do a test it was a waste of time, never got it to work off a USB stick, of course I have no access to the web at the moment, can't see my files properly etc etc PAIN!

Posting this from work, if I get caught I will have lots of time to look at my PC issues for a while but no money to spend

LOL I know what you mean - I'm head of IT tho so I don't have to worry so much about those things :)

http://www.memtest86.com/#download0

Hope it helps :)

EDIT: It's an ISO image so you will need to use something like Roxio or similar to burn it off... also - memtest only checks system memory - it won't touch your GPU memory...
