Ello guys,
May have finally managed to find something not rust ridden and falling to pieces for my first car.

Just wondering if anyone that has access to free HPI checks and wouldn't mind doing one please? Reg is: DN04 KUY

Checked with Owner before and he said that it would be fine but he had a minor accident, says theres nothing recorded in logbook but if hes unsure of wether its categorised or not.

Thanks in advance :)

I've used HPIcheck.com
While they are not particulary cheap, they give you plenty of details (including number plate changes and whether it was written off on those) and free 7 days driveaway insurance. it's 3 full checks for £30.

The RAC one is probably the best - is a comprehensive check with a gaurantee, and also checks the national mileage register.

Went with the Experian one.

Shows as CAT D, been advised that insurance company will insure it as long as I get an Engineer report stating roadworthy and no immediate repairs.

Spoke to seller damage was apparantly front bumper that he's aware of. HPI check shows that the date of writeoff was 20-12-2006 4 owners ago.

First car, probably gonna get bashed up anyway, will get me on the road for a year for a shade over £3k including car and insurance, Tax and MOT til next year on it.

Worth it? Or are cat D's forwned upon?

4 owners in 4 years? Whats the car?

Edit: Its a Corsa diesel.

Seriously, walk away. Not only because its a crap car, but because why bother with a car like that with a bizarre history? You need more than a front bumper to write off a 2 year old car.

Cat D is non economical to repair isn't it?

A 2004 Corsa CDTi getting written off as uneconomical to repair in 2006? It's possible it was just a bumper, but combined with stupid hire costs etc. from Helphire or someone or it could have been more than a bumper.

I'd hazard a guess it was possibly a bit more serious than a bumper to write off a 2 year old car, even it was only a Corsa.

Yeah but theres no info anywhere as to what the damage was or how it was repaired :(

Cheap, gets me otr for all in around 3K, can probably get the car for around 1.3-1.5k, suggestions locally for that kinda money? (NE6)

Even more reason to walk away surely, if there is no info on exactly what caused them to write off a 2 year old car.

Do yourself a favour and find another, its not like there is a shortage of them.

I believe the "starters car" of choice is the Fiesta 1.25.

Good little engine, very simple and hence cheap/easy to fix if it goes wrong.

seriously just walk away

4 owners in 4 years says each of the previous owners have wanted shut of it for some reason. Could be because the car was never same as before / new due to the fact there are so many cowboy bodyshops around who repair it any old how without caring if doors shut properly, paint matches etc..

to the OP. unless youve got a good idea of what youre looking at when youre standing next to a car i advise you to run a mile from this. the seller is being shady, just run unless you can spot the likely things that can go wrong. a cat d with sketchy history can have many many things go wrong

plus its a corsa
