should i get a 15.4 or the 17 inch screen? whats the best all so how good is the x1600 256 vga card? will i be able to upgrade this at all . And any tips for getting a discount at the apple shop
Main use will be web and a few games etc

As with all laptops you won't be able to upgrade the video card. I have the 15" screen and find it more than adequate :)

i want a mac only thing putting me off is the vga card i have just come from a dell xps 1710 with a 7950 512mb vga card

The 7950 is much better then 1600 that comes with the MBP, you planning on gaming? For day to day use the 1600 is more then enough.

You could probably run it fine on 1280x1024 medium/low details. I did that with my 7300GT (although the 7300GT DDR3 wasnt a bad card tbh).

This isnt a gaming laptop though is it ;)

It also doesn't have an inflated price that the XPS has. And my 17" MBP is considerably smaller than my step dads 17" XPS. I know which one i'd rather have! :p

The X1600 is more than adequate! Runs Wow very well! All up full.

Dell XPS Vs. MBP 17"

Much thinner! And quieter.

My Step dad has just ordered another XPS  He said that my MBP was ugly and lacked style!!!

The Apple shop price match. Is there any where i need to be looking to get the price down?

Price match - no chance. Apple have no direct competition, control the product, the supply and the dealers. You might save £20 buying online but you usually pay that back in postage.

There's basically two ways of getting a discount :
1) Jump on the next flight to the USA and buy one in person. I saved £300 on my 15".
2) If you are in education (and judging by your spelling and grammar you need it! ;)) then ask for education discount. It ranges between 7% and 12% depending on stage of learning.
