Helloo,

I bought a PS3 Slim yesterday with extras and what not. One of those extras was a HDMi cable so I could play in HD. Long story short, every time I set my TV's max resolutions to 576p, 720p and 1080i or just 576p and 720p, I get the whole 720p image squashed onto the left half of the screen with the other half having a purple epileptic fit. It could be a dodgy cable or dodgy TV, but I really hope that it isn't (obviously). I've searched around on Google and such for some answers, but have been unsuccessful. :( If the problem is hardware then I'll have to go and sort that out with replacements, etc.

I'll get a picture of what I'm talking about soon.

Thanks.

yes as said try another hdmi cable, its probably that. although most cheap cables work for 720, its when you use 1080p the cheap cables show up

I haven't tried using the composite cable as the HDMi cable is fine in 576p, it's just when you go to a HD resolution that it starts having a fit. I'll try and get another cable and give that a go.

Which TV do you have? Because i had this problem with my Samsung HDTV and the 360. There was an option on the TVs menu, something like "Reset Screen" or something like that. When selected, the screen went blank for a few seconds then come back on with the image back to normal

Borked HDMI cables can sometimes only show problems when lots of data is going through them so it's still possible.

You haven't got anything daft like Picture-by-Picture where you show two channels (or inputs) at once? The family Sony does that.
