Hi i recently ordered a titan accelerator which came this morning.

It won't start i keep getting BSOD in the writing i get atikmdag.sys

I managed to get the pc on the picture was terrible artifacts everywhere. I updated windows just then tried installing newest graphics drivers. Then on restart i get BSOD with atikmdag.sys. I have to go into safe mode after that and when i do it says there is no drivers to open CCC????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried the support line for ocuk but its permanently engaged.

Help Please.

when your booting up and see the Windows XP/Vista loading screen ... are there artifacts at that stage too?

If so, it means its a hardware problem because the drivers don't kick in at that point.

Have you checked that you've seated the Graphics card in correctly? maybe take it out again and give it a blow...

If its only in windows that the artifacts appear then it might be a driver issue, boot into safe mode and uninstall EVERYTHING .... inc your old drivers and re-install them after a reboot.

Edit: Could you provide a linky to the 'Titan accelerator' so i can see the specs?

The 'ATIKMDAG.SYS' is apparently the 'ATI Radeon Kernel mode driver' which does point to it being a driver issue, not a hardware problem.

Because of the problems i had with the first system as a token gesture ocuk upgraded a few parts so this is my system:

Asus p5q
8gb ocz 6400 (the computer reads this fine so don't think its this)
HIS 4850
Corsair 650w VX
Q6600 Oced to 3.0
Arctic cooler
Antec 300
Vista 64
500gb Seagate
LG blu ray

EDIT: I've also reseated the graphics card so thats connected properly. (I have it connected to a tv with a dvi to hdmi (if that makes a difference) i've also tried the supplied dongle and had hdmi connected but it doesn't make a difference. I still get bad artifacts.

Antec 300's are very easy to get into. Just undo the thumbscrews on the back and slip the side off.

Make sure everything is seated properly, including the memory and try again.

If no joy then you will need to speak to them.

Sorry to hear it's not working.

Hmpt... If the artifacts appear on bootup then its got nothing to do with windows or drivers. A hardware component (probably your graphics card) might be up the duff.

I had this with my old X1950 Pro, i had artifacts all over the place ... that sorted itself out after a few bootups and cleaning out the case. I think it was probably dust or the GPU not being seated properly.

A few suggestions ....
Try it on a normal monitor if possible
Have you got another GPU to try?
I don't think it is the RAM, but if you have two or more sticks, try booting up with all but one stick removed, if the problem is still there, swap to another single stick and if the problem persists you know its not your ram.
Remove your overclock to take that out of the equation too

Personally it does sound like you have a dodgy GPU or possibly your PCI-E slot is not working correctly - Thinking about it, try it in another PCI-E slot if you have it.

See how that goes ... if all of that fails, then keep trying overclockers :(

Have you got another GPU to try? *Its an nvidia so will prob conflict* (8800gts 640mb)

I've answered your possibles. Any ideas????

No, if you can't test the system with another graphics card it's time for Overclockers now Chalky.

If the artifacts are appearing as soon as you turn it on, then chances are it's the graphics card. I dont think reinstalling anything will help.

Although it is odd that you can boot into safe mode.
If the artifacts appear in the BIOS screen/When it is POST-ing then there is no way it's a software issuse. Reinstalling wont do anything.

My money is that the GFX will need replacing.

Can't get a hold of OCUK permanently engaged. Its not looking good. They close soon.
I've updated the bios and put in the default settings. I'm in safe mode now and its not as bad artifacts wise now i've just got 2 big red thick lines coming down the middle of the screen now. I couldn't make anything out earlier so slight progress.

Like J.B mentioned if your getting artifacts on startup then usualy the gpu is faulty.
Double check the fan is spinning, try installing the Nvidia card and see how that goes, worst case startup in safe mode.

Try sending a webnote and see if you get quicker response.

The fan is spinning fine. I can't get into CCC at all it keeps saying failed to load detection driver.
It looks like i'll have this system till the 2nd at least so i'll try anything before then.

Will the nvidia card just cause conflicts and not even start?

Thanks for the advice so far i'm at the end of my teather here.

You should be able to test with the nvidia card. If you can, uninstall all ATI drivers and pop the Nvidia card in and try firing it up.

I cant uninstall anything ati wise.

Here is a pic of safe mode at min i don't want to turn this off its the best i've had it.

Sorry matey ... been busy at work.

Gotta say its your card mate, i'd RMA the GPU as soon as possible.

The only thing i can suggest is that this could be the card 'bedding in' as i mentioned before my X1950 did it too and then it went away. Although that was within half an hour.

To be honest tho, if it doesn't go away within 30 minutes i'd give it up, admit defeat and wait for OCUK to put their phone down.

Sorry :(

... and no, nothing to do with the drivers.

If the GPU is having errors during POST it is nothing to do with the software. Its a hardware fault.
