hey guys,

just a quick question, i am new to overclocking i have a 2500k which i have overclocked to 4.2GHz via the intel turbo boost and while stress testing my highest temp is 75 degrees. Does this sound right and is there anyone with a 2500k with a better overclock at the same temp, also i am using a corsair H80.

specs:
Processor: Intel core i5 2500k
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4
Ram: 8GB Corsair vengeance LP (two 4gb sticks)
Power Supply: Antec true power new 650W
Case: Fractal design define r3
Hard drive: 2terabyte Seagate st2000dl003
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80
Graphics card: MSI twin frozr III gtx 570

i have the corsair h80 pulling air into the case Therefore i have a demciflex 120mm fan filter

Thanks in advance

Kind regards Darren

If you tell us what spec you have. i.e mobo, case and heatsink. We can advise you better, if you have an aftermarket cooler we should be able to get you to atleast 4.4ghz

I'd expect better temps from an H80 at that overclock. Have you left the voltage on auto? Maybe post a screenshot of CPU-z while stress testing?

hi thanks for the fast response just doing a stress test now will have a screenshot up soon and yes the voltage is on auto

they you go hope this helps. and yes the voltage is on auto

The temperature is high even for the vcore. You should be able to considerabley lower the vcore but I still feel the temperatures are high for that voltage.

I run a slightly lower vcore (1.344) with a Gelid Tranquillo and I'm topping out around 63c. Are your cables tidy? Which direction are your fans going in? Can you link a pic of your CPU heatsink?

Might need to re-seat it.

i believe the cabling is pretty neat, i have two front 120mm arctic f12 filtered intake fans and one bottom filtered intake fan arctic f12, two fractal exhaust 120mm fans the corsair h80 is pulling air into the case and has a demciflex 120mm filter on the rear, also i did use my own thermal paste coollaboratory ultra.

hope this helps.

Yeah your cabling is excellent to be fair. Nice rig :)

The only thing I can suggest is to re-seat it. It's a long shot I know but there's nothing obvious there to suggest.

As I said before the temperatures are around 15c too high for that vcore even taking into consideration natural deviation.

I assume your room is normal temperature etc?

Thanks would to much thermal compound cause the 15c increase?

I wouldn't say 15c but I'm not familiar with your compound. It's possible. Could you try with a more conventional compound to see?

The only other thermal compound i have is akasa 450 is this ok, however i dont have any isopropyl to clean my cpu with is there any other way to clean the thermal compound off?

Actually sorry, I just checked in IBT myself and I get around 71-73c so although I still feel you're a little too hot, just not as much as I first thought.

I get 58-63c in Prime95.
