Hi i am in need of some help, i have not built a pc for several years now, ended up getting an alienware laptop. now i am considering buying one of overclockers pre built machines and need a monitor for it. in my original post a guy has mentioned ips or pls panels, could someone please tell me what these are as i have no idea. i am going to be using a gtx 970 graphic card should i look at a 144 mhz monitor again i have no idea if this is the way to go.

i play eve online and do a bit of video editing i am looking for something in the 27" area and no more than £230, the system i am looking at in the proton proceed i5 link is in the original thread which is linked below

many thanks for any advice

You don't need 144Hz monitor for EVE.

You don't need to know what PLD/IPS/TN is you just need to know what they mean...

IPS has better colours and better viewing angles, usually much better vertical.

PLS is much like IPS, not really got a lot of experience with them.

I would suggest a standard 60Hz IPS for EVE and editing.

Mucho agreedo with the above - standard IPS monitors can be had for only a bit more than a TN/VA but are nicer to look at and should be nice for editing

The previous 4 I linked to will run circles around that for video editing and colour accuracy etc.

yup i appreciated those links aswell, i just find it difficult to make the right choice, lets forget the video editing i can do that on my alienware i7 so that leaves just a gaming monitor at 28" sub £230

Ever plan on playing fast action games such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, driving games? if yes then a 1ms response 144Hz screen will be great.

If the games are slower (build up a base make units, send them out to attack such as command+conquer on Homeworld etc).

Then do get the higher quality IPS/PLS panel and enjoy.

last question about this i would like to connect this to my pc via hdmi. what does (MHL) stand for on the hdmi input description, also will the 6ms be adequate for gaming

Dell UltraSharp U2515H

almost pressed buy but not quite there yet. I play eve which is a dark space game will this monitor be adequate for this game? i have been reading about bleed and lightt showing through, also concerned about the 6ms

The Dell will wipe the floor with anything else within £150 apart from maybe the Korean screens.Try it if you don't like it send it back under DSR.
