evening..

i've done some googling and found nothing but wondered if anyone has had this problem??

I was driving home tonight and the volume on my cd30 sterio went mad (max volume) needless to say it scared the **** out of me. I turned it off and on again and it now has 2 volumes, off and stupidly loud. i though it may have over heated but my drive was over 3 hours i left it too cool but it still did it when i got home.

my guess is its dead but i could really do without having to replace it at the moment!

any ideas?

Paul

ive got a CD30 and never had this.

Problem is that the volume switch isnt actually connected to anything. The volume wont be quieter when you start up if you turn the knob down before hand for example.

Try and find another CD30 from a scrapyard i think.

yeah this is what i was thinking. i've looked on the bay but from what i've read they are coded to the car, so would have no idea how i'd get a code for it?

you'd need to get one thats been "divorced" from its car via tech 2

then get somebody to pair it up again with tech 2. A good local specialst should be able to do this. One bloke on the VXR forums was doing a bulk buy to activate the cruise control stick via Tech 2 for the astra.

why is nothing ever easy.

cant see me getting much done at work tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the info mate.

just ask around for people who do work with "tech 2"

thats the software thats needed to do things to the ECU. People buy used CD70s off ebay and find people to do it without too many issues so it cant be that hard.

If you're not already a member, i can ask around the vauxhall forums for you if you like ?

yeah i might give that a go. it might not be a much of a pain as i first thought then.

Well i'm not as mad as i was when i got in anyway.

nice one mate you're a star.

Paul

no need for any of it now.

Got in my car this morning and its all fixed!! very odd but i'm not going to agrue.

fringers crossed it stays fixed.

if it happens again i think i'll go the aftermarket route but i know what i'm like, if i'm doing that it'd have to be a really good one. mucho £'s

Thanks for all the help though guys.

Can you not just replace it for an aftermarket unit?

finding one that enables access to certain features of the cars is difficult

most aftermarket headunits loose the ability to change the clock when changing headunits as the clock is changed via the dial on the radio !

Do you not have the CD70 Navi in the VXR? I thought they would have come as standard in such car. Had a passenger ride in my friends vectra and it has the CD30 with the little orange LCD, I love my CD70 Navi in my Astra  Really helps the look of the dash etc.

mines not a VXR? not sure where you got that from?

Anyway it broke again on the way home. so have gone down the aftermarket route. i've got a facia that matched the colour of the dash and its looking very nice.

i've lost the rds display on the little orange lcd in the dash and the unitl wont dim when i put the lights on, but it still shows time, outside temp and now date where track or station was so i'm happy.

my new cd player has a connection for my iphone and bluetooth hands free too. cool!

haha, oops sorry my bad!

wish it was an astra VXR though, thats a sexy car!
