Help Please with AMD 6000+

From looking around (on google) I can see higher Windsor CPUs used but identified as "unknown" but Brisbane doesn't work :(

They are pretty toasty yeah. From what I can gather the Windsor 6000+ and 6400+ won't be fully recognised but will function ok (as long as power supply is up to it).

A Brisbane CPU of any kind, will fail to boot.

Pretty much, there are too many variables here. You might get away with an X2 6000+ and carry on soldiering for another year, on the other hand...

Oh well. You cant have everything :)

Thanks very much for your help, you saved me from spending money on a processor that wouldnt work.

No problem, it is always difficult upgrading pre-built PCs like this. They build them for the rig that goes in at the time, redundancy is for nerds :p

It is possible the BIOS would pick it up ok, you can find an adequate cooling system and the PSU would handle it, but it might also explode :o

basically i have foun the 6000+ will work but be unrecognised and the 5600+ will work and be recognized. brisbane and black editions wont work.

I don't think there will be a massive difference between the 5600+ and 6000+ tbh, the 5600+ is equivalent to the FX-62 in the power chart on Toms test (though you could safely take off 10 Watts or so to account for the newer silicon).

You think that thread can be trusted?
Probably, hard to say for sure and their mobo might have a different shipping BIOS to yours.
