my pc wont start. i phoned up the support line (cyberpowersystem) and they could only tell me to unplug the power lead and hold in the power button until the motherboard light goes out.

it was working last night. turned off fine. now i cant get it on. motherboard light is on. but when i hit the power button....... nothing?

anyone give me any solutions? i need to get my work off my pc but i dont have the software on my laptop.

could someone please give me some advice on what to check? anything that could be wrong?

i can probably do some work on the laptop but need to find out what wrong so i can get my new parts sent for me.

Cheers in advance

Okay, stay calm, you can fix this.

Firstly, was anything done to the PC (software or hardware) immediately prior to the system not starting?

2. With the system plugged in and switched on at the PSU, is there a light on the motherboard somewhere?

3. System specs may be helpful if we can get it to post.

4. Have you tried reseting the CMOS?

edit: Re-read your post, skip to 4. What motherboard do you have? If you don't know, can you take a piccy and post it up here?

ok it sounds like something in your PC has died like the motherboard or power supply.

depending on your technical skills there are several things you can do next.

if you are comfortable opening the case and taking out the hard disk, do this and plug it into another PC and access your data that way, again do not do this unless you are entirely sure what you are doing.

you can apply for a warrenty return from the company that supplied the PC and they can repair/replace it for you, this in my experience can take a few weeks.

if you need it straight away you can hire a techie to recover files/repair it for you, you can find companies that do this in your local phone directory or some computer stores.

another thing the power button could just not be working correctly, if the case allows you to, take off the front panel and push the black switch where the power button was.

Howdy guys, ended up finding out the problem. it was the power supply.

Now i got to try and get a new one fitted. its a pain because the power supply are wired everywhere :(
