Specs are as follows:

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 Mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.8Ghz - Currently Overclocked at 2.5 (but probably could go higher) with a Scythe Ninja cooler.
4 GB Geil RAM - 2GB initially then put more of what I thought was the same in, but now it appears I've got 2x PC2-5300 (333Mhz) and 2x PC2-6400 (400Mhz).
A 256MB X1800XT Graphics Card
SB Audigy
A Lian Li PC-7 Case with a Seasonic S12 430W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply
250GB IDE Hard drive

Now I've been thinking of upgrading slightly -

I'd like to get a 5770 Graphics Card and a 1TB SATA HD and install windows 7 at the same time. I think I'd probably get a 650W PSU as well to run it all properly.

I bought the system 3 years ago with the intention of OC'ing it, but never did. Now it wont run a new game I got, so I decided to give this OC'ing game a shot. Here's what I got initially - Excuse the 19hour time trial, I got struck down by illness and let it go on for longer than I expected!

I'm a little disappointed at what I think is a high temp for the minimal gains compared to what others are posting on here. Once I get a new PSU to go with the 5770 I'll cut some holes in the case to reroute the wires, but I can't see the temps going down much.

What would you gents advise trying now? I'm a little concerned about the differences in my RAM, what effect would that have?

Thanks

Drop your ram to a 1:1 multi rather than the 4:5 its on. This will give you at least 40Mhz headroom to push the mobo further (and CPU).
Also see what others have managed to get from the same chip. To be honest thats a 39% increase in stock speed, thats not bad for free speed! Some people do seem to get theirs to around 3-3.2Ghz.
To help I would match the RAM as the 333/400 difference could cause you issues, as the 333 stuff may not go as far as the 400 stuff!
Your core temps at 100% load (circa 40c) are fine mate. Lots here push them to circa 60c!
To be honest I would just invest in a better graphics card and push the CPU further. As I think its the grfx card thats holding you back. Just my opinion
