Chaps, bit of a problem here. Yesterday my computer was playing up - sending out random emails, redirecting Google search results etc. so I scanned for malware. The scanner found malware, deleted it, then told me to reboot. Upon rebooting it's like I'm in safe mode or something? There's no sound (except loud beeps), no internet connection, the Windows theme has changed (like Windows 2000 or something?!) etc. Like it's in safe mode but it doesn't say it is. I've tried System Restore but to no avail.

Any ideas? Thanks.

jsut reinstall windows, if its XP boot from a linux live or windows boot cd and rename the windows, docs and settings, and program files folders.. if its vista/7 there is no need...

or jsut back up your files and reinstall...

by the time you sorted it out it will have taken much longer than simply reinstalling,...

Try this:

Run msconfig and in the first tab select Normal Startup and click OK. Restart.

Might work. :)
Just tried that and it didn't work. :(

Thanks, I may have to reinstall later today if I can't find a fix.

There must be a fix somewhere through surely?!

What did you use to scan and remove the malware? What malware was it? Maybe try a different scanner for a 2nd opinion so to speak...to make sure it is totally clear.

Are all the device drivers still installed??
