hi, we'll just bought new card and cannot get it to work.
coming from ati 5770 im upgrading to 480 with new power pack, i've unistalled ati drivers then swept with driver sweeper.
on installing 480 i get long beep then 2/3 beeps and no screen (black)
i can install 5770 and it work's again but trying the 480 nothing, ive just dug out old 8800 and it booted first time no problem.
what have i done ? if you need me too look into something please tell :)
any help greatly appreciated :)

ah sorry aint updated that ,new 1 is xfx black edition 850w
when 480 is in "ao" is on the onboard display but cant see that code in motherboard manual ?

other thing with old power supply it had a 4 pin supply to motherboard but new powersupply has 1; 8pin and 1; 4*4 pin supply ,i have 1 of the 4 pins installed like old 1 should i try the 8 pin?
will the motherboard need more power ?
why does it have a 8 pin connector on motherboard if 4 pin supply has been enough ?
cheers for any help :)

so computer works with 8800gs in but still black screen when 480 installed.
wont need to reinstall op system as nvidia 88 is working , so no ati/nvidia conflict ? i dont know would reinstall work ?

I doubt it.

If you're not seeing anything displayed at all, even in the BIOS, then it's got nothing to do with software or drivers.

Have you fitted the 6 and 8 pin power connectors to the 480?

What power supply are you using?

xfx 850w black edition have 1 6+2 in the 8 pin and 1 6+2 without 2 in the 6 pin.
stumped. could it be broke ? all the fans work when its on but gives black screen.

would there be any way to test , anything i have'nt already done ?
i havent got other computer to try it in but if ati 5770 and nvidia 8800 work with new power supply looks like faulty card ?

That would seem the most likely answer unless there's some incompatibility between the card and the motherboard.

You could try the card in a different PCI-E slot if you have one.

Doesn't the motherboard have a 2 digit error code display?

When you boot with the 480 installed what code does it display?

ok so when card is in top pci slot i get long beep and 2 or 3 beeps and no screen.
in 2nd pci slot i get display and"A single graphics card is detected in slot PCI-Ex16_2 or PCI-Ex16_3
Please move the graphics card to PCI-Ex16_1 slot for non SLI operation" so i can see something :)
3rd long beep and 2/3 beeps and no screen
the 2 digit code is a0 but cant see anything in mboard manual other than oa which is:
mouse init :initialized the mouse.
is there any way to move the primary pci lane to lane 2 ? (middle slot) as seems to work in that slot
thanks for input

I can't see where you can do that.

Try giving the first slot a good clean out to remove any dust or debris and then try the card again.

Make sure the card is seating properly in the slot.

Where the card is secured to the back of the case try moving it up or down a bit:

all screw'd in and no movement but still no screen.why does a 8800 and a 5770 work but not me 480 ?
stumped am i

Have you tried cleaning out the slot and moving the card backwards and forwards a bit?

Try it with the card pushed as high as it will go and as low as it will go where it's screwed into the case.

Have you had a look at the pins in the PCI-E slot to see if any look bent?
