Hi guys,

I've just taken delivery of my new hardware and put it all together.

Mobo gigabyte z77x ud3h, Samsung green 8GB ram, i5 3570k.

I am reusing a hard drive - sata 3gb setting. This has my old computers o/s and files etcetc.

I aam also reusing a gtx 260 and a soundbladter x_fi


I just tried to boot up and I get the windows screen. It then gives a bsod and restarts.

Any ideas what its doing ?

I've tried ram in different sockets to no avail. I've removed the gpu and sound card too. Same results just boots then dies. Any help greatly appreciated !

Not sure how to get the bsod to stay on screen but when I do ill post the thing its complaining about. The os on the sata is win xp.

Oh yedh the cd droves were ide so they're not installed as I have to buy a sata one.

in the bios is it set to ahci ?

+1 its set to ahci by default on gigabyte z77 boards,pop into the bios and change sata ports from ahci to ide,it should boot fine then

Hi - thanks for the response. I've changed it to ide and can get into safe mode now. Thanks a lot chaps

I'll have to read up on what the differences of those settings are.
