hi..first post on OC..but i've been reading thru the forums for the last month and its a great site for info..

i've just built my first pc and had a go at oc'ing just by reading thru the posts.. i wonder someone can put me on the right track to were i'm going wrong

at the moment it's running at 500x7=3500 in cpu-z and everest, but in coretemp and orthos its showing 3999..

i wonder if the mem timings are wrong..i just cant get my head round how to set the timings..

i been running it for the last week at 465x8=3720 but couldnt get the mem past 1451mhz so i dropped the multi to 7 to get it up to 1600..

cpu 1.4v
ram 1.9v
timings=7-6-5-15...i think this could be my stumbling block.

orthos as been running for the last 15 mins while i've been writing this..and the temps have not gone over 60c..room temp 24.2c...do you think i can improve on this?

Hi and welcome :)

You can put up a screenshot by uploading it to Imageshack.us and then pasting the url into the textbox here using the Insert Image option (looks more like an envelope than a picture icon).

If it is stable at 3.5ghz @1.4v then you have a pretty good chip, tho you're nearing the upper sensible temperature limit at 60c.

Do you know the stock timings of the DDR3?
 
I would drop them to 7-7-7-18 til you have finished clocking the CPU.

Then you can start tightening the timings if you want to.

And it's very nice to see someone with DDR3.

this 1 at 3.7ghz and its rock solid..

i was wondering if i should start from scratch and set the mem first between 1600-1666 then start to oc everything else?

but having said that i did a pi last night 1M= 15.086 @ 500X7 / 2M= 35.599
1M= 14.181 @ 461x8 / 2M= 33.571

500x7 had faster mem but slower pi
 
Tbh I would try to leave the memory out of the equation til you have finished with the CPU, even if it means running it at 1200mhz or summit til you have finished the CPU.
