Hi all

Dont know if this is considered the correct section for this , sorry in advance if it is .

So my set up was working ok , i decided i wanted another m.2 in there for games to run a bit quicker , i installed it and everything seemed fine . then the comp just froze up so i hit the reset button now the thing wont load and i get the error B1initializedkibrary failed 0xc0000001 .

From what i can see its a windows issue , but i cant find me recovery usb stick , and the ony other pc i have is a chromebook , which you cant install the windows media tool on to make another .I have found a post saying you can use the chromebook recovery utility to burn an image to a usb and boot from that , but its not working , the screen just flashes a few times and then goes back to the bios .

Is there a way to factory reset from within the bios ?

Anyone know of any tricks to get me back into windows ?

im pulling what little hair i have left out !!

My mobo- asus hero maximus x
i7 8700k
windows 10 - upgraded to 11 - had no issues with the upgrade

Regards

Tony !

You can try disabling secure boot in the bios and see if that gets you into windows or recovery.

Did you renamed Windows 11 iso to bin in Chromebook Recovery Utility?

If that still not work then try Ventoy on Chromebook, if that still not work then try download Ventoy and Rufus from Google Play on your phone that will work with USB to USB-C adapter.

Try 4 ways to fix error on Windows 11

If you can download the Windows ISO, you should be able to make the USB stick yourself on the ChromeBook. I despise of ChromeBooks and have little experience with them, but in Windows it's pretty much a case of formatting the USB stick as FAT32 and extracting the ISO contents to it.

If I get time today, I'll do some tests with basic formatting and extracting the ISO.

Hi , yea i renamed the files to bin . It just kept flashing the screen to black like 5 times , then went to the bios page.
Did you tried booted USB from BIOS? I done that with my old ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard to installed Windows 8 years ago booted from BIOS.

If your chromebook do not have Google Play Store, you can download and install it, also chromebook can run android apps.

Try to see if you can download Rufus and Ventoy to use it to create bootable Windows 11 USB stick on chromebook instead of your phone.

Thanks all , ill try these when im home , i have ordered a stick with it all on , be nice to keep incase of failures in the future too.

Have you tried removing the new m2 drive just to see if it allows Windows to boot?

Can you still see the Windows boot animation? You could try this to force it into recovery (from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...4-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234#WindowsVersion=Windows_11):

  1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
  2. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
  3. On the first sign that Windows has started (for example, some devices show the manufacturer’s logo when restarting) hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
  4. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
  5. When Windows restarts, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
  6. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
  7. Allow your device to restart into Automatic Repair, and select Advanced options to enter winRE.

Oh wow so it doesn't even start the Windows boot up. Then yeah trying to get a Windows USB would be the next step.

Right, I've managed to create a bootable USB disk in Windows just by formatting it and using 7-Zip to extract the ISO directly onto the USB stick, with no other alterations. So you should be able to do the same on your ChromeBook, as long as you format it as FAT32.

I did fully erase my USB stick in Diskpart, by using the CLEAN ALL command. So I'm confident you'll be able to get your USB stick working with minimal effort.

I'm curious if it's because doing that method maybe only allows legacy boot instead of UEFI. You could try turning CSM and legacy boot on in the motherboard, but then that will disable secure boot.
