You may well be right, it might not cope with sli. The solution would be to overclock them individually. Since in sli they run at the same speed, note down the slower stable speeds of the two cards. Use nibitor to change these speeds in the card bios then nvflash to write the bios to the card, then write the same bios to the other card. Boot windows and set up sli, probably best to test it again.
The advantage is in avoiding software, since software overclocking is messy and sli is inherently a bit hit and miss. This approach will work much better.
