Hi guys, I could do with a bit of help. I splashed out on a new graphics card and PSU, so removed pretty much everything from my PC and re-assembled it with the new parts. I switched it on and wouldn't get past the POST, 1 long beep followed by a short beep. Also my nforce 680i SLI motherboard has an LED screen that shows the status of the PC, it came up with the code 7F. I looked in the manual and states that this means 'check POST error and display them and ask for user intervention'. Any ideas what could be the problem? Any help would be appreciated guys, thanks.

System specs:

E8400
nforce 680i SLI motherboard
4gb OCZ 8500 ram
GTX 260-216
Toughpower 750W
Asus xonar DX
320gb WD hard drive
LG Blu Ray HD-DVD drive

#1 reset your Ram, try it in another channel if necessary using one stick at a time.

#2 have you put your old hardware back in for testing purposes just to make sure you didnt damage anything when rebuilding?

#3 Reset the bios and look for anything out of place.

My suggestions, hope they help

Thanks for the reply ConnectionFX. I'm going to rebuild it again tonight, take my time with it, make sure every connection is made. The problem I've got, is that I removed everything, except from the CPU, so tested the mobo and it came up with the same error, which suggests it's a problem with the mobo, I've got the feeling I might need a new motherboard

Cross reference the bleeps depending on the make of BIOS (see mobo manual) with www.bioscentral.com This will give you some idea of the problem. Pointless doing a rebuild if it's faulty RAM, for example.

Cheers for the link Huddy. I've had a look, It's either phoenix or award BIOS on my mobo, I'll cross reference the bleeps with the tables. Hoping it's something as easy as faulty ram.

Try clearing CMOS.

I had exactly the same problem (other mobo though) and had to clear the CMOS twice before it got on with it! Always try twice!
