OK just recieved my new PSU and connected it all up to the molex fans, DVD RW, GFX Card and the two mobo connections.

The green power light is on but nothing happens when I press the power button on my case.

I have checked that the power cables from the case are connected to the mobo correctly and they are.

Not sure what's wrong.

Help?

? you mean you have not tried it with CPU installed ?

Nope. Waiting for the thermal paste to arrive but needed to test if the PSU was working.

Does it need to be installed for the power to go to things like the molex fans? Have I asked a stupid question? :)

First ever self build.

LMAO, ah this is a classic. Don't take it personally, we've all made stupid mistakes when we didnt know better. Yes I should probably wait until you've got everything installed before you start worrying.

If you're really that keen to fiddle and test things you can hotwire the PSU by using a paperclip or something to connect the green wire to one of the black wires. This will cause your PSU to fire up as if you'd pressed the on button. WARNING: DISCONNECT ALL COMPONENTS FROM THE PSU FIRST You might be ok with fans that connect straight to the PSU, but none of the mobo or drive connections should be left in.

I've never done this, only heard about it, so don't blame me if you blow something up or kill yourself.

PK!

Yeah I thought I should but I'm sure you'll understand that when some places offer a limited DOA warranty, you want to make sure their working as you can't wait for the next component to arrive on your doorstep :)

Cheers.

Tried it in another system and it is indeed dead. Have informed the seller that I am returning it but will try a replacement before asking for a refund.
