hi,
i ordered hardware for a new system from overclockers a couple of weeks ago, the specs are as follows:
the build went very smoothly and the system started up well and worked fine for a few days. on a few occassions following the build the system performed a sudden shutdown and gave me a blue screen, i didn't pay too much attention to this and carried on as usual.
suddenly i realised that if i left the system idle for an extended amount of time it would go into hibernaton but i couldn't wake it back up. the power light would be working as well as the mouse led and keyboard led's. whilst the screen acknowleded that there was an input the monitor's dialogue box would just say that it was in power save mode.
pressing any key or combination of keys did not seem to have any effect what so ever. the only way i could get it to function again would be to hold down the power button to perform a sudden shut down and then boot it up again. again i didn't pay much attention to this and just lived with it.
however, a few days ago i left the pc on and went out, when i came back a few hours later i found that the system had once again acted in the manner described above. only problem being that this time a reboot didn't seem to want to work. nothing would come up on the screen when i booted up no sounds, nothing!
i opened up the case to have a look at the harware and found that the graphics sard fan was starting and then stopping and realised that the case fans were acting in the same fashion. i assumed it was a hardware problem...
... so i tested out the graphics card in my old system and it worked fine, i put my old graphics card in the new system and the same problem occured, so i know it's not the graphics card.
i tested the power supply in my old system and again it worked fine so i know it's not the power supply.
i placed the hard drive with windows vista inot my old system and it is working fine no problems what so ever. so i'm assuming it's not vista.
the only things i have no means of testing are the ram/cpu/motherboard.
i called overclockers tech support and they said it was just vista's power saving settings but im not sure they're right since im have no problems with vista in my old system.
i really hope someone knows what's going on and can advise me on what the problem is. any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. please be provide simple and clear instructions as i am still relatively new to computers.
