Help problem solving PC that won't boot please

Yes to clear CMOS, I used a screwdriver for 5 secs as I dropped the supplied plastic covered 2 pin connector in the case.

Mobo is secure at mount points with a slight inward band if I push in the unused data Express socket. Push down on graphics card is firm.

To recap
  • reseated all motherboard and drive connectors
  • Updates BIOS
  • Cleared CMOS
  • Removed HUB and front panel connectors
  • checked motherboard movement
Have i missed anything?

No to battery sadly. I must be going mad, I know I have 4 sata devices but can only see 3, I am fairly sure I have no partitions too. Need to look more carefully.

We will also need consider removing all but 1 stick of memory too - realise this is a PITA.

Worth changing the battery while you're doing all this if possible. Do you have prime delivery with a certain rainforest supplier?

I don't but I know someone who has, will get a battery ordered now.
2 of the memory sticks are easy to remove, I think order matters though. I will need to check.

It is Ok, I can manage the memory sticks, I thought the side between CPU cooler and case fan was going to be tight.
So leave it until I get a battery now?

Totally up to you?

You can strip it down now to a relative skeleton setup inside the case - no need for battery for this test - and this will be another step out of the way.

You would need to remove all none essentials from the motherboard: sata connectors, wifi card etc and ideally 1 stick of memory. I would also remove power connectors from drives - but we could do this incrementally if they're hard to get at. We may get life with the first set of removals....

Your call - i've only got your thread open to alerts now while i'm making calls.

Life is sweet sometimes, I have a battery, apparently that is the size that goes in my wife's scales :)
Do I have to remove sata from mobo end, or is it good enough to just disconnect drive end, I ask because they plug in sideways onto mobo not straight down making it very awkward to reconnect.
Also, power to sata is from psu not mobo, why disconnect?

But how will she know how much she weighs one day from the next? :D

Ideally, yes, remove connection from mobo - make a note of which cable comes from where so Windows doesn't have a conniption fit if we do manage to get in. That said, if it's tricky remove from drives first for initial test.

As, we're reducing the draw from the PSU (tiny admittedly) but also the possibility of a flaky lead being the issue. It's not unusual for a single lead to corrupt a whole system - be it a SATA cable, power connector or IO etc..

Thanks for making me smile re weight :)
I will try battery first, then memory down to one stick ,then SATA.
I haven't had a single successful boot today despite many attempts, I think it is getting worse.
