So I thought I'd buy a few fans to keep my pc cool

But since my case is so fiddly I can't get the controller to stay in place when i press buttons

One side is screwed and the other it slides in with another screw but isn't secure so it slides by itself
Any ideas?

I also want to add 2x80mm fans to the rear of the case but need help on how to attach them

I was thinking Velcro but haven't seen any fans attached by this before and how secure it would be?

After this there's going to be a lot of cable management =(

looking at the case you already have 3 case fans, correct?

why do you need to add more fans?
 
There are three things a man needs to fix anything.

WD-40, Gaffa Tape and a hammer. If it doesn't move when it should, use the WD-40, if it moves when it shouldn't use the gaffa tape, and if a hammer doesn't fix it, it's an electrical problem...

This should give you an answer :)

I swapped out the stock fans for ones that push more air, I render images on my pc so it runs at 100% for a while and gets pretty toasty.

Tbh, it probably won't be that useful, but I like any opportunity to say it xD

But, honestly, looking at the controller, I think some kind of bodge job may be the best bet, either some kind of way of wedging the fan controller into place, or something like blu-tac to keep it more solidly held in.

As for attaching the fans, I've seen one job once where it was just tied into something with a shoe lace, so I'm thinking maybe, can't quite tell if it would work in both parts, you could simply try looping a cable tie through the grill and through the fan mount holes? or something similar?

Looking at the first pictures of the fans being pushed into place then the space they are going to fill it looks like half of it will be blocked off.... :( o and to keep the controller in place tighten up the screws real tight and also maybe use some cabel ties or what ever and put them behind the screws so that when it gets pushed back it cant because it will be blocked! o and to answer your how to fix the fans in place i cant think of anything clever but how about a retarded one chopsticks?

Currently thinking I could slide a screw in first, put a bolt on it and tighten and see if that stops it, but I need a tiny bolt hmm.. might have to be a bodge job haha, I'm thinking hot glue gun.
For the fans the grill stops around half way up so I can't actually fasten the tops to anything. I just order some little velcro stickers though, so I'll see if that works!

A bigger case with more room and airflow capability would be a better solution. The heatsink on the cpu is being pushed into the bottom of the case by the psu, hence the nice bend on the motherboard.

Oh and bluetac to hold the controller in place, don't make me laugh. Some real amateur night suggestions here:)....a strong bit of sellotape lol

The 2 x 80's - drill holes the same size as existing perforations on the back grille, drill more perforations above the existing ones so the fans have got more breathing. Drill holes at the top that align and match with the holes in the fan assembly itself and attach with fan screws. job done.

The fan controller - install the unit and use the screws like you already have done, come behind the other side(behind the controller), and on the side that cannot be screwed, push a small block at that edge and glue gun into position so it can no longer be pushed back.job done.

Just a thought, regarding the case panel on the optical/fan controller side, why not plan installing a 120mm fan or two on the case panel itself(opposite cpu cooler), again drilling perforation holes for ventilation provided it fits of course. Would still look presentable.

If you dont want to drill the case, you could try getting some long screws and nuts and:
- cut the heads off of the screws
- glue/weld/otherwise attach the screws to the side panel
- secure the fans with the nuts.
Some rubber spacers to reduce vibration would be good too.

As for the fan controller, you could:
- go down to a hobby shop and grab some plasticard/thin metal sheet
- drill out the holes for the screws (use an optical drive to get the spacing)
- glue it to the fan controller.

Not the only ways to do it, but should work.
 
Cheers guys for all the suggestions I'll have a long think about it and see what is easiest /best

Edit as for the bend in motherboard ill be chopping the ends off the copper pipe in the heatsink so should fit quite well!

I would not recommend chopping off the copper ends, they are sealed and your likely to damage the cooler. If there is a small gap above the psu, pack the two lower screws points of the psu(inside case, between psu and case) and it wll angle the psu upwards, enough to clear the copper ends.

Think i'll try getting a lower profile cooler, maybe a h50/60

I use a hot glue gun for attaching things in odd places.
Would stock the fans for you and you can also use it for the fan controller.

Great thing about the hot glue gun is that it can be just pulled off without damage if you change you mind, or want to remove waht ever you have stuck.
The only time it does not work is if the area glued gets very hot.

For the fans - get the glue nuce and hot and put a blob on each corner of the fan and then just press into place. You need to be quite quicek before the glue cools too much.
You can also just glue round the edges for additional sickyness.

nice idea, didn't think of that, and easy removal too. I would glue round the edges for sTickyness though:p
 
Well I got my velcro stickers and they are working really well, but do you think the glue gun idea would be good for cable management where I want to run a cable across the top of the case
