help removing norton

hi my mates pc has norton secruity on it he has tried to remove(badly) there is no uninstall and now it wont let him browse the net due to some of the settings its using

I cant remove from add/remove programs and have tried disabling services to no avail, i have put on avast

HOW do i get rid of all traces of norton from his pc

please desperate now after 3 hrs of fiddling

Which version of Norton IS is it?

Reinstall it maybe then uninstall properly. Its a virus that program.

Symantec used to supply an uninstall utility.
Try searching their website for it.

not sure on version, no install disk came with comp which has no rescue disk
