Hi all,

I have a 60 Gig SSD used for caching on my system. Its setup using Intel RST and in RAID0 format. I want to remove the 60 Gig and revert to normal opeartion i.e. non RAID. How do I do this?. The reason I want to revert to normal is I am after getting a Crucial 512Gig SSD that I want to make as my main drive and I don't want/need the caching facility any more. I was going to use the redundant 60Gig as a scratch disk for Photoshop. Is this a good idea or overkill. many thanks

look in the intel rst software bottom right of taskbar, and disable caching/acceleration,it will write whats stored on the ssd onto the hdd and then you can disable raid in the bios and switch sata ports back to ahci

Wazza300,
I had to work late only in now. I can see how to disable acceleration in the Intel RST software. Where do I disable RAID in BIOS?

Thanks for the info. I know how to get into the BIOS. I just need more info on how to disable RAID in BIOS and to be sure that the PC will boot afterwards
Thanks

Then you go to boot disk, or disk type and change from raid to ahci
The. It will give you you list of drives, you choose your physical drive as drive one
Simplist method might involve unplugged all other ssd and hdd cables bar the one you want responsible for the boot and go from there.
Chnage raid to achi and then boot to the drive.
I assume your mbr is going to be on that drive, if not, things might be interesting.

Gotta love that line. Yeah I was going to remove all drives except my C drive and boot from there after I make changes in BIOS

My fear is this. That even though I make changes in the BIOS when windows is restarted it will try to load a RAID driver and screw up windows starting. Any thoughts?

nah it should be fine

the mbr wont be on the cache,it will be on the hdd in a separate partition along with the os

if it bootloops when set back to ahci just set to ide,but it should be fine

you only need to set to ahci from raid in the bios, not in the raid console

Hi guys,
The RAID0 caching removal didn't go well at all :(
I disabled caching and reset the bios and changed from RAID to ACHI. Windows tried to load but failed and went into a recovery mode. But it didn't recover and windows did not load :(
Anyway, I've since done a clean install on my new Crucial 512GB and all is looking good :)

sorry to hear,it should have been ok

booting from the windows disc and doing a startup repair would have cured it
