Help required...B & O clone?

Might be worth looking at Nakamichi - they do some "similarish" sort of systems. No idea what the sound quality is like though. Soundspace 9 is probably the closest to the B&O one. Guess they won't be cheap, but not in the same bracket as B&O though.

I've got a Soundspace 5 (3 CD multi-changer) and I find that the sound quality is excellent.

I feel that B&O need some defending. What exactly is wrong with the sound quality (and in the case of their TVs etc the picture quality).

My Parents have a Beosound 3000 with Beolab 6000 speakers. As has already been said, B&O products sound better than the average set up that you would buy on the highstreet and look better than anything else. I personally hate the styling of Linn/Kef and the black box with knobs on is not for me.

I have a Mission 5.1 setup (M35 floorstanding and bookshelf with the sub and centre to match) powered by a Kenwood AV amp. I would trade it all for my parents CD player and Stereo speakers just on the sound quality. They don't compare.

Would the average guy on the street really notice a difference between the B&O SQ and a high end Kef system...

I'm doing a case study on B&O design for my Graphics degree and their history is really interesting.

I'm sure B&O can be beaten for sound quality for the same money by other brands, however its not really their target market. My parents have B&O kit and its great for them as it looks good, and is incredibly simple to use(my mum can barely work out predictive text), and I have to say that having watched some films in surround sound its sounds very good imo, but i'm not well versed with the likes of Linn and Naim, so can't make a fair comparison.

Its like all 'luxury' brands, part of the cache with them is the price. Are my paper denim cloth jeans worth 200 quid more than a pair of 50quid levis, probably not, 100 quid more maybe, but in reality your paying for the brand, and the style, and i'm happy enough to accept that.

I'm glad you said this, yes they are stylish and simple to use but the style restricts the function to a certain extent and like your jeans, you are paying money for the name with the understanding that the performance probably isn't up to that of a cheaper more robust model.

I don't like B&O and I have stated my reasons, for me sound quality and performance is a mile ahead of what a unit looks like, if I was going off road I would rather have a Landy then a BMW X3, they'll both do the job but the Landy will do it better, admitedly whilst looking worse, its about whether you want to get there first or to look good doing it.

One thing i will say about the B&O tvs are that they seem very well built. My parents have a B&O crt that is about 15 years old and nothing has gone wrong with it in that time, and the picture is still excellent on it. Compared with the 4 sony tvs they've been through in the games room in the same time, B&O don't look quite so expensive.

Hopefully the B&O LCD they've upgraded to will last a similar time, especially given the price of the thing.

I'll agree with that :) My Parents are in a similar position just waiting for the HD stuff to come out before the next upgrade. The stuff does last. The only reason they ever had to change their B&O stuff is because it got nicked!

Over the years in 3 different houses we have been broken into and the stuff that goes is our B&O kit :(
