Hey guys,

I've just started having a problem with my computer. Whenever i play a game, such as Overwatch and Squad, my computer will restart with no warning after about 20 minutes. I have Ran a stress test on my GPU (The computer did not restart) and I've checked the temps of my CPU and GPU whilst running the games. (The temps were fine)

I have not experienced this problem before and it only seems to have occurred about a week after installing Win 10.

I've checked my Error logs on event viewer with shows Kernel power 41. Which means the computer lost power for whatever reason.

Specs -

Intel i7 4790k (With H100i cooler)
GTX 780
Corsair Vengeance 8gig ram
Corsair CX 750W PSU
1tb HDD
120gig SSD + 60gig SSD for OS

As this problems only just started occurring, i'm starting to think it could be Windows 10. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys

Thanks for the replies guys!

I've just ran a RAM test and i ran my CPU on OCCT for over an hour and everything seems fine. I've made sure my mouse cable is not pulling on the power lead, there was quite a tangle back there, but i wiggled the power lead just to see if that would have done it and it doesn't seem so.

The newest component in my computer is a 1tb hard drive, so that didn't really invole screwing/plugging into the motherboard.

I'm going to test Overwatch and Squad now to see if the problem is still happening. Then i'll reseat my components.

Post an update and what's Overwatch like? Is it as good as COD?

Overwatch is awesome! Really fun game, just waiting for the competitive mode to come out so i can jump on with my group of mates! Definitely worth a purchase

Ok, so I've reinstalled Windows 10 with a USB stick.

I've stressed my CPU and GPU.

I've re-seated my GPU and RAM. I haven't yet reseated my CPU as it has a h100i cooler on it and the temps were fine + no restart stressing the CPU.

I've changed the SATA sockets my HDD's are plugged into

I've made sure all power connections are plugged in securely.

I've flashed my BIOS and updated it to the latest firmware.

I'm still encountering the restarting issue. And not on particularly demanding games. I loaded up 'Hands of Fate' and after about 10 mins it restarted. I loaded up the game again and it restarted again not long after. I can browse, watch videos, listen to music etc etc with no problems at all.

This problem is getting really frustrating! Any ideas? :)

Thanks guys

I have 2 Kingston SSD's, 1 60gig and a 120gig. I've just stressed tested my computer for just over an hour, running OCCT AND Furmark at the same time to simulate running a game. The temps even reached higher than when i'm playing a game, and there was no restart!?!?

This is so confusing :/

Ok ill try that!

Yeah im running the default clock speeds. I also reset my bios to optimized defaults and updated the bios

Best place to get a good reading of those are in the BIOS. Each value should be within 10%+/- on the 3.3v, 5v, 12v.

Does this help? I was told by a mate to increase my CPU voltage to 1.25 which seemed to make my system more stable. I was playing battlefield with a friend for a while thinking it was solved, but it just happened again. This problem is really starting to P**s me off!

Played a game of Overwatch, minimized the game, browsed facebook for a min, computer restarted. I've been on the computer ALL day not playing games, and it hadn't restarted. This is really annoying me!

I do not use Win 10,but have you checked for a setting that shuts your HDD down after a certain time.?
It should be somewhere in the Power Saving section of the OS.
Not sure it that would cause a restart though.
There is one other thing that comes to mind though, if you can play games without problems, they usually use a higher Graphics card frequency than when you just use windows normally like online.
You might have a Graphics card driver problem as windows 10 "updates" them without warning that is why I still use Win7 Pro.

I've changed the shutdown Setting off. My graphics drivers did crash yesterday, but i'm sure if there's a problem with the GPU there will be a bluescreen. I'm thinking of reinstalling windows 8.1 to see if i still get these problems

How much room do you have free on your 60G OS drive? Could this be Pagefile getting too large while gaming? Although it should give you a warning before hand.

Is your pagefile set to system manged and not auto?

I set it to custom i think. But i have over 20gig left on my SSD, I'm going to re-install 8.1 to see if the problems still occur

I reinstalled 8.1, i was able to play Overwatch all night with no problems. I tried to play Hand of Fate, but kept experiencing freezing. So i rolled back my drivers. I started to encounter the same restarting issue again. So I reinstalled windows 10, and used the same drivers as i did on windows 8.1 which worked. Still experiencing restarting. Could this be a driver issue? Or could my GPU be dying?

Thanks guys, i guess i'll be trying a new PSU. Gives me an excuse to go Modular too lol. I'll try it out and let you all know if it solves my problem :)

If you re-install 8.1 and the problem goes away , then it would mean that the graphics drivers are causing problems in Win 10.?
When you go back to 8.1 try using the drivers that worked for that OS , you can update them later as 8.1 does not do it for you if you request it not to.
Win 10 is ok imo , but does not give the user enough options to control their own system , but that`s just my thoughts.

I'm back to 8.1 and i'm still having the issues. I can't get past 3Dmark stresstest without my computer restarting
