hi guys, my brother has bought an acer aspire one 16gb ssd and is trying to install xp via usb.
we have followed the guide which everyone seems to be suggesting from eeeguides ( http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/installing-windows-xp-from-usb-thumb.html )
ive taken my unused copy of xp and nlited it for him and send him the files, which he has put onto the usb stick, but when we try to boot via usb it says "bootmgr is missing"

ive looked and looked and cant find a solution, how can we sort this, is it something simple like find the file from the xp cd and send to him?

please please help this is getting frustrating !!!!

From that it SOUNDS like either a file is corrupt on the USB stick for the windows installation, or you've already wiped the drive on the Acer, and its still trying to load off that, rather than directly off the usb stick (which providing it's being booted off should have its own low level setup files.) Worst comes to worst, get a cheap USB DVD/CD drive, and then use an XP disc (nlite or not) that you've tested as being able to load on your own machine.

problem solved. turned out my brother hadnt copied all the files across properly and was missing half of I386 folder.
now its all installed but we now cant get it onto internet even tho correct drivers are there.
no wireless or ethernet connection!!!

everything in comp managment shows ok but go into network connections and its totally empty
