Help Selecting a Bike

Fair enough...I just wouldn't want to be anywhere near a road or CX bike with a bad back. Your call.

Have a look at the Giant TCX range as well as ones like the Specialized Tricross. Should be a good range of dealers close buy who stock those brands and can get you one to try out first.

I've heard a few good things on Bikeradar (good place for further info) on the Giant TCX range, well, I call it a range, theres 2 bikes :).

If you have a Giant dealer near you give them a ring / email to see what they have in stock at the moment and ask if its ok to give a few a road test. The really good dealers seem to have no probs with test riding as long as it isn't raining.

well guys after today going to the cycle shop and trying loads out, like the cyclocross, and the others as well i also tried some road bikes and i really really liked them :).

Also i thought i never really go off road i only stay on roads and normally the hardest thing i do its go on some old rough lanes and thats it :).

So i ended up buying this :D

Its so light and fast its insane lol, on the 60mile ride home from the cycle shop i got some major speed up lol tried to even overtake someone at somepoint lol

Thats a good looking bike :)

tried to even overtake someone at somepoint lol
Haha, be careful with that, it's very hard work. You have to try and go as fast past them as you can, so they think "wow!". But then you cant slow down again incase you have to face the humiliation of being re-passed. You've got to keep it up until you're out of sight.
It's hard work overtaking :p

Whitecrook,

Yes i will be the guys in the shop said would be fine as long as i watch the big pot holes etc etc. Although went over just some rough tarmac yesterday and my god lol got shaken to death haha

Ok lol getting used to switching your hands from the top of the bars to the curved handles will take a while haha nearly came right off today at high speed one of those comedy shake moment.

Anyone use to road bikes can you tell me do you use thie curves when you stand up on the peddles or up a hill? Or only down hills?

Any tips on maintenance as well?

Thanks a lot!!

Very rarely use the drops. 90% of the time I'm on the hoods (the tops of the brake / shifters), 9.5% on the top bar and 0.5% on the curved drop. This is probably true of almost all roadies.

When I do use the drops it's for downhills.

Maintenace:

Keep is clean, especially the chain. Wipe it down after every ride and lubricate regulaly. Once a month take the chain off and clean it completely with white spirit.

Chains are consumable, you will go though them.

I probably spend my time equally between tops of the bar and the hoods. (If i know the person in front then i usually use the tops, if i'm unsure i'll use the hoods incase i need to brake).
I dont use the drops as much - on fast downhills i use them to get more leverage on the brakes or pushing hard on the flat it's a bit more aerodynamic.

i tend to use the drops downhill or sprinting (get much better leverage I find) or really powering up hills... the hoods the rest of the time unless I'm stretching out or relaxing on the flat centre.
