Hi everyone. I've got folding set up at home and it's working fine and i've got a spare pc at work (a school) and i want it to be a dedicated folding computer. I've tried 7 and xp but i can't get folding to work :( i think it might be a problem with the proxy but i can't figure it out. I've had a look at the FAH forums but didn't know what to do.

Thanks,

Mark

what does it do or not do? does the client install and download a work unit? but stay at 0% or doesn't it even do this? have you allowed access in the firewall? what would be even better is take over the schools server ha :D

Well i've done some fiddling and it's gone to 0.40% so i guess it's doing something. I'll leave it overnight to see if it does anymore and i'll get back to you. It's not a brilliant pc but it's 2.5ghz quad core and 4gb albeit 800mhz but something is better than nothing.

It's one of the first gen Intel quad cores. Used to be a media editing pc, but we recently bought a load of i mac for the kids to use instead.

My home PC is a Phenomx4 965 BE clocked to 4.2ghz with 16GB RAM, I tend to let that fold overnight when I'm doing downloading over night. And also the PC i actually use as work folds overnight when I'm not using it. Might set it up on my gf's PC as well as i recently built her a PC with a Intel haswell 4670k 8GB ram.

I'm OK with folding at work as I'm an ICT technician here and this PC would have been recycled otherwise. Trying to see if i can get my hands on a couple of the old servers with have got in storage :)

do it do it servers the way to go in they are semi - decent? , your girlfriends pc will be a good folder also :D

They were good when we bought them 5 years ago. Will see if i'll be allowed to put them under my desk.

Might have to remote desktop if i get some more machines cause i've already got enough monitors on my desk

haha that's awesome :D:D

is that 2 machines its on now at school? theres a program you can monitor all clients on on any number of pcs from one pc,

Monitoring your Clients

The 3 main programs to use to monitor your clients are HFM.NET, FahMon and FahSpy. HFM.NET has the most features, including the ability to publish a website to check your clients remotely and an email notification system to notify you of EUEs (early unit end - unstable machine).
All are available for Windows but only FahMon has Linux and OS X versions.

This will give you a total ppd aswell from all machines & give a better estimated ppd than the folding client aswell

have you got a passkey set up btw? this will give you the huge bonus points

edit - I don't think you have as you have done 18 work units and your average ppd hasn't gone up , after 10 work units you get bonus points , a passkey is a must , you'll need to enter it onto every client you've set up, very easy, enter your folding username and email , it emails you straight away and you just copy it over

Well i have the PC i work on (behind the monitors on the desk) set to run when I'm not using it and under the desk is the Dell T3400 which is maxed out on folding and behind it is an APC 2200 UPS that had been sat under my desk which is connected to all my monitors, my machine and the folding machine.

what are the " old " servers? dual or quad cpu? still, if you " are " allowed to use them, anything they do is worth if as its no cost to you.

imagen if them imacs were i5 intels and you was aloud to fold on them lol, you'd soon rape your way up the leader board haha :D

I'll have a little nose in the cupboard they are stored in. The 4 new imacs are Quad-Core i5 3.2 ghz/8GB ram and GeForce 675MX there are another 5 in there that are pretty much the same spec. Sadly i don't think i'll be allowed to do that.

nope, just stick to what your allowed to use and don't have to mess about with turning folding on and off.

did you sort your passkey btw?

Yeah got my pass key in and sorted now.

One of the servers we have has got dual Intel® Xeon® Processor E5430
(12M Cache, 2.66 GHz) and either 8 or 16GB or RAM and a slightly older one has Dual Intel® Xeon® Processor E5410 2.33GHz and 4 Gb or ram i think.

Will let you know if i manage to get my way at all :)

im not sure why your points updates are giving such little points , do you leave the pc on till each work unit is finished?

everything works on bonus depending on how quick its completed, allowing it to finish a work unit uninterrupted and you'll get full points its offering

The dedicated machine was on all night. working at 5844 PPD with 1.24 days to finish current project and it completed one over night as it was on about 70% when i left it. And my working pc which is doing light folding also left on over night is about 30 min from completing another projected with about 3700 ppd.

Don't think the stats are updating

the server stats are down that's why it looks like no points have been given , there fixing it though now so youll get all your points updated at once as they have said the points arnt lost and you'll see them once fixed :)
