Help Settle An Argument?

I like the bit at the end when the screen goes white - supposed to be when Quaid gets a lobotomy as the whole story has been a fantasy in his own mind.

Total Recall is one of the best Sci-Fi movies ever made, in my opinion, exactly because of this.

I don't agree that the whole thing was in his mind, but the film gives you equal evidence to support both sides of the argument with neither one outweighing the other.

For example, the scene with the doctor trying to get him to take the pill. He claims that if Quaid kills him, "The walls of reality will come crashing down. One minute, you're the savior of the Rebel cause, next thing you know you'll be Cohaagen's bosom buddy."

Of course, Quaid shoots him, and what happens? The walls cave in and armed people appear. Later he learns the plot twist that Hauser was in fact Cohagen's buddy and this was all set up.

However it could simply be argued that the doctor was in on it all. He knew that Quaid would eventually learn about Hauser et al. so his spouting of it all isn't so absurd.

Such an awesome, awesome movie. Straightforward Sci-Fi action flick, or mindbender - your choice.

Dist I hope you failed GCSE sciences.

Oxygen isn't flammable, smoking whilst breathing oxygen wont make a difference..

Maybe the cig will burn faster, but thats about it. You really don't think that his oxygen cylinder would explode do you?

OK sorry, i admit i am wrong. I thought oxygen tanks would explode because of that hospital in the US (dallas i think) that had a fire which was reported to have been caused by a person on a oxygen tank lighting up. I also read somewhere that fires are a huge issue on the space stations because of the oxygen rich environment.

Im sorry if my posts were wrong, i now stand corrected.

Well, it is as it'll greatly help combustion. The fuel, whatever is, will burn. The high amount of oxygen only helps it burn.

 Wow. Really, there comes a time when you really just outta say "enough is enough" and quit...seriously.

Wonder if the oxygen and treatment is provided by the NHS (ie. via tax money) while he continues to smoke.

Hehe - was wondering if anyone would ask....of course it isn't. My family isn't interested in free handouts. Besides, we're American! He pays for it out of pocket.

EDIT - It's via the nose tube...3 litres an house. Although I remember him saying something about how when his nose is dry he has to use Vaseline where the tube goes into his nose. He doesn't smoke when he does that, because he doesn't want to blow up!

Does Mars have enough gravitational pull to retain an atmosphere? It's only .38G, I don't think it would keep lower-mass atoms like hydrogen, oxygen, or helium from floating away into space.
