Help something's burning- is it motherboard, PSU, what?!

Nice. Sounds like a plan.

I'm hoping OCZ will RMA it for me and replace it with a new one I can stick up on the bay.

What wattage should I get for a replacement? Judging my the specs in my sig

Is 850w enough?

580s in SLI + i7 + PSU potentially degraded (some of the older OCZ ones prematurely aged though they were mostly CWT based) could be exacerbating a poor connection issue hence that result. 580 SLI can easily push a 850 watt PSU thats not working 100% to the brink.

That's exactly the thing I needed to hear... And support have got back to me regarding an RMA so hopefully I can make it happen.

And yes, will look at Seasonic. I like the Superflowers too.

Depending on the price I may get another 850 because as soon as I can I'd like to swap 580s for 970 as I've said.

It may not be the PSU at fault - but you will need a new one.

Burnt connectors are normally caused by high resistance/poor contact.

What do the pins on the extension look like?

Thanks. Perhaps they weren't contacting properly or had surface dirt/grime/corrosion?

The extension pins appear perfect. Can't understand it.

Looks like a simple bad contact.

The extension is less likely to get damaged as it's the female part of the connection, the male part is protecting it (how gallant) :D

The cause, poor quality cable connectors which could be either connector or both.

Not sure if any help but I've had a similar issue twice with an ATX extension (albeit for an iMon both times). First eventually took an ssd out and caused general problems with the board. Second took 2 ssds and fried the board. My advice is bin it now!

edit: my visual diagnosis may be as faulty as your cable :-)
