Hi new to the site and building PC's

I have zero idea what I need to be honest, I put this together by browsing other threads on the forum.

I normally just buy systems, so building one myself is all new to me.
I am using a Dell XPS7100 atm, which has started to feel slow in the latest games. It has a HD5870 and AMD Phenom II X6 1055T. Maybe I could sell these parts ???

I will only be using this system to play BF3 and ARMA.
I have mouse and keyboard already, so need pretty much everything else.
I will only ever use a headset, so do not require any speakers.
The system will be under the desk, So not interested in any LED lights or windowed cases etc, just a plain one is great.

I have no preference over AMD or Nvidia as long as it does the job. Although I would like to have the option to add a second card in future.
The XPS has Win7 x64 but its OEM I think, Can this be transferred to the new system? Or will I need to buy a new key?

I also need a new wireless headset, I added a sound card but unsure if it is really needed.
Budget is £2000

Thanks in advance.

That is looking great already! I presume you have done quite a bit of research into this as the parts you have picked are going to give you a great gaming experience! The 3Gb VRam will be good for BF3 too.

I chose Arctic Silver 5 for my thermal paste for the H80. Make sure you clean of the standard stuff, its crap! All it takes is some nailpolish remover and a cotton pad, was clear in 3 swipes. I doubt you would need the soundcard if you are using a Wireless Headset. Soundcards generally improve the sound going out of them, but as your Headset will most likely be USB (because its wireless) it will have its own soundcontroller.

16Gb of Ram isnt needed for gaming, 8Gb as most if you have background apps running.
Get this instead, its faster, only 8Gb and you'll save an extra £40-£50.

1 x Corsair Vengeance RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A2133C11R) £79.99
Total : £83.90 (includes shipping : £3.26).

As for headsets, go to the popular music store, try a couple on and then check OCUK for stock.

Enjoy!

In fact ill give you your 16Gb Ram back but offer an alternative. This is faster then your original and cheaper, but very reliable, I have it in my rig. Its also only 2 modules, leaving room for upgrades. As a plus it keep with your colour scheme (I thought Red Ram might throw it all out, so swapped for these Black and Gold/Yellow)

This leaves you £260 for an amazing headset and some more games!

Your list looks good.

I agree you only need 8Gbs of memory. So buy some faster stuff.

It will only gain you a few FPS in games but does make the whole rig feel snappier.

I would also go green on the GPU buts that me. I have had both and just prefer green.

Good, great headset, I had a look at the corsair website and it has its own audio controller with profiles for FPS, Movies, etc..

What you have now will suit you and make you happy for a long time, so dont let anyone try to add more to take you to your budget, and then push you to go to £2100. Theres a habit of this on OCUK Forums.

Almost forgot to add, use these fans on the H80, they have great Static Pressure which is good for Radiators. They are silent, allowing you to have the H80 on full permanently. I have these on my H80. I have used one of the Stock Corsair fans from it as a case fan, and unless its turn all the way down then its the loudest thing in my room. Just use the H80 screws to add these to it and plug them into the pump. They'll make it cooler and quieter. The only thing that gets louder in my PC when gaming is the Graphics card as the pump+Scythe Gentle Typhoons on the H80 are near silent on full.

Save the extra money and treat yourself to some games, or take a lucky lady out for a meal!

As you are currently under budget, i'd get a 256gb SSD, I soon filled a 128 as it's the main drive, and it's cheaper if you get it now instead of selling the other on at a loss etc...

And personally, RAM is at its cheapest at the moment so I'd get the 16gb, it'd be a shame to limit such a lovely pc build, it wasn't long ago that 4gb was considered ok, now it's 8gb, and it allows you to have more headroom in the future and if you do any video encoding etc? Just my opinion :)

See what happens...

So now with H100, 16Gb high speed Ram, 256Gb SSD you are left with nothing in your budget.

Obviously the builds improve, just by how much though.

256Gb Drive would easily be enough for the things you want loading faster (Windows and a few programs).

Anyway. Pick your favorite build depending on how much you want to spend. The better is the most expensive. But there really wont be much difference between them all.

Please dont do large downgrades in parts as it can confuse people, as they see better and better things added with cost bumping up, then a big drop can throw people off the idea of homebuilt then end up going prebuilt.

And I need to play BF3 at somepoint....
