Wondering if anyone can help me out, I recently had a HDD failure that forced me to install Windows on a new disk.

No hardware has changed as the second disk was already installed and everything is as it should be. Now I have Windows XP Pro SP3 installed and it refuses to recognise ANY sound device. I have an old but otherwise working Soundblaster Live that shows up as a Multimedia Audio Device (Creative Gameport installs fine, of course), I've changed PCI slot, Chipset driver, reset BIOS/ESCD, tried to install the AC97 onboard sound and got the same problem.

Now Creatives drivers won't install if they don't see a Soundblaster, usually Windows built-in drivers work but it just seems to not be recognising sound devices!! Even the Realtek drivers did nothing.

I've never seen this before, please help.

It's a DFI Lanparty 875Pro, everything was working fine, no hardware changes just a new install of Windows. Now neither the onboard or the card will show in Device Manager as anything but 'Multimedia Audio Device', installing drivers does nothing. :S

As I said I've tried different chipset drivers, what i was previously using and more modern, DirectX is up to date, Windows was SP2 off disk then updated to SP3.

It's very confusing and frustrating!

Could be, was hoping there was some kind of recognisable fault or glitch somewhere... oh well I'll reinstall when I can be bothered.

It's not my main system so no priority.
