Hi everyone - Long time lurker first time poster :D

I have been donated a Rampage III (i7 LGA1366) motherboard to start the mission towards me having a semi decent gaming rig.

Running a small business along side a wife and two kids means funds are incredibly tight and as such, components will have to be purchased over time until the rig is complete.

The only other piece of hardware I have laying around at the moment besides the motherboard is a BFG Nvidia 8800GTS (512mb) which currently resides inside my pc upstairs. Unfortunately the ram etc will not be compatible with the new motherboard :(

So, can someone please spec me up a machine, want to keep cost down as much as possible (as mentioned above ;)) but obviously understand that you get nothing for free ;)

Much thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to the forum.

First off, you will need to source a second hand Cpu(i7 920, at least) for the Rampage mobo.

Secondly, a budget will help considerably.

Hi sorry about the budget :P Basically its as cheap as possible. I have a birthday coming up shortly so I plan to make a list of components that family members etc if they want to can choose from and help towards the rig.

In regards to second hand i7's, I've seen a few on a famous auction site for around the 60 to 70 pound mark saying they are tested and working fine, do you think they are ok or do you think chances are they have been overclocked and now on their dying breaths.

I would`nt pay any more than £70 and if you get one, make sure it is SLBEJ version. Just get the chip and then buy an after market cooler to OC it with.

Are you going to be replacing your current system, with the new one?
Can you list your full spec so we can see what can be reused, including make and model of Psu, case and what OS you have.
