Was trying to OC my core i7, but when I start to run prime95, the screen freezes and then I get a Blue Screen :( (BSOD error 124)

I have core i7 920
asus p6t deluxe
6gb patriot viper ddr3

These are my BIOS settings:

Manual
Ratio: auto
Speedstep: enabled
Turbo mode: enabled
BCLK: 190

DRAM: ddr3-1523mhz
CPU volt: 1.35v
QPI/DRAM: 1.35v

DRAM bus 1.64v

All I am trying to do is get my cpu to run at 3.8ghz stable. I am new to Overclocking and I do not know what I need to do to get it stable. If anyone knows how to OC then please help!!!!

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but as you've not had any sort of reply just yet:

See what happens if you try 3.6Ghz with, only as a test, automatic voltages. I'm assuming the RAM can run at that speed without any issues. If its fine, the voltages are the issue and if it isn't, drop all the way back down and overclock slowly bit by bit to ensure it stays stable.

Many posters on here will tell you to go slowly when overclocking. It isn't something I do but when my i7 920 arrives, I'm going to try 3.6 first, not 3.8.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Overclocking! ;)

Wish I could help but I'm still on LGA775 mate!

If your totally puzzled it sometimes helps to backtrack a bit and find the spot where it all goes pear shaped!

Well basically it it goes like this

Database: Here ya go system can you remember this number for me

Overclocked system: What?

Database: Here take this number its really important you remember it's 10101010100101010101001010101001010101010010010101010101010010101010101010010101011010100101001001010100101010100101010101001010100101001010100101001010010100101001

8 Hours Later . . .

Database: Hey overclocked system can I have that important number back please?

Overclocked system: Kiss my big fat hairy *** you *** of a *****

As big wayne states, in a nutshell, how important passing prime95 is. You think your pc might be stable, it probably will be for a little bit. It WILL crash when your doing something important.

A bluescreen with stop error 124 indicates that your OC isn't stable. More vcore usually. But I am also still on socket775, and know zilch about 1366.

Hi, I here were a lot of O/C threads on i7...with BIOS settings, try to find it!

As to Prime95, I would say it is... If during firs hours it fails stress test, than system will crash!

Example: When I oc my pc, and prime fails, than pc crashes after 2-5 hours of gameplay, exacly while running games, or other programs which have lot of stress on CPU!

The IntelBurnTest could save you a lot of time. I use it for a quick stress test, to see if I can move on upwards. The highest temperature on any core at 4.0ghz I find is around 70 degrees C.

:)

If he has hyperthreading enabled he wants linx not intel burn test, as ibt cant load eight cores properly.
At the OP, make sure the uncore is at least double the ddr3 speed and that the qpi speed is set to the lowest possible multi.

Edit - and as posted above disable turbo mode as this gives u a multi of 21 under load meaning your running 3990 not 3800.
