apparently not, iv been told web interface password isn't the best security as people may still be able to access the box,
iv just want to make sure my box is fully secured that's all, I don't want to leave anything open for crafty people to gain access to it

I disagree to be honest, as long as you are only forwarding the web port through your router and have a strong password on the web interface then it's extremely unlikely that somebody would be able to gain access to the box.
Not worth the effort for setting up OpenVPN in my opinion, however if you do want to go down this route I suggest you read up on OpenVPN and give me a shout with any questions via my email address which is available in my trust.
