Hi.

I have given Ubuntu a good 3-4 weeks try and I really don't get on well with it. I have had tons of problems which I have spent days trying to fix with no luck.
I have tried 6.10 and 7.04 but Beryl is incredibly slow on my very high spec laptop, it keeps doing a mount check when I start Ubuntu which takes absolutely ages, I can't install my Printer drivers, etc, etc.

Anyway, I am dual-booting XP and Ubuntu at the moment and have the following partition's setup:
NTFS (Windows)
EXT3 (Shared data between Windows and Ubuntu using FS-Disk)
EXT3 (Ubuntu)
Linux Swap

and another Dell partition for mediadirect.

I would really like to remove all the EXT3 and Linux swap partitions and have one big NTFS partition for Vista, which I am going to try out.

What is the best way to do this? I have Gparted on Ubuntu but all the partitions have a padlock icon next to them and I cannot resize them.

Thanks.

It may also be possible to just delete the partitions you don't want when you install Vista, or use your xp cd to do it :)

Ah, sorry, misread. Thought you wanted to preserve your existing Windows install. Cancel my above then, just use Vista to corrupt and then destroy anything else that might exist on the drive :)

You can use the Ubuntu LiveCD and run Gparted from it....then you can delete unwanted partitions...

Also use XP installation disk to recover the boot sector....use Repair option..and run commands like /fixmbr /fixboot

Probably someone else has a better solution...

Hi.

I downloaded Gparted live CD and booted it and deleted all the Linux partition's. I restarted my PC and get a black screen saying:

GRUB loading stage 1.5.

GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 22

Any ideas?!
I can't boot into Windows or anything.

I did notice I still have some unallocated space in my partition's, not sure if this could be the problem - it's only about 70 something MB.

stick your windows cd in and choose the option for recovery console, then enter the command:
Code:
fixmbr
and restart.

Thanks, GRUB has been removed now.

Vista is installed and I love it so far. Everything went really smoothly and I find it very quick on my laptop. It looks really nice too!

:D

EDIT:

I forgot to ask.
How do I open Run/Command in Vista?
Do I need to install DirectX? Or does it come with Vista?
