Hi all, I've currently come back to online gaming on my PC. The games i generally play or generally want to play consiste of Call Of Duty MW2, Medal of Honor ( When its released) and Battlefield BC2.

These are all fairly demanding games, especially for my current rig. I currently play Call Of Duty MW2 the most and have noticed i get a lot of fps decreasing, My settings are currently all at high with no AA / AFF etc.

Im looking to upgrade some parts so that i can enjoy these games with extra settings and possibly the option for using AA / AF etc. I play my games on 1920x1080 resolution on a 24inch Samsung monitor.

And her is my current spec:

Windows 7 - 32BIT
ASUS P5E (socket 775)
Intel Q6600 2.4ghz ( Factory clock) With an artic cooler HS Fan
Coolermaster 850 Power Supply
Western Digital 500GB 7200rpm HDD
ATI 3870X2
3GB Crucial Ballistix RAM (800mhz i believe, not too handy with the BIOS)

Im hoping someone can help me please, my system isnt too bad, but i would assume it is dated now as i put this well over two years ago.

Also if you could link the items from Overclockers, as i will be purchasing the items from here.

Kind Regards

Well the story behind me using 3GB was due to one of my sticks failing on me ( tested with MEMTEST) and ive tried overclocking before but this led to many BSOD and memory dump errors. Have you got any recommendations on ram please, as i know the prices have sky rocketed on ddr2.

regards

edited my above post with some ram.

your pc still has plenty of life left in it, maybe a reinstall of windows with latest drivers too.

but definately get that clock speed up.

Ok brilliant pal so if i was to get the ram you have recommended and try and overclock the cpu i should see an increase in fps?

Is this all you could recommend for upgrades, i was assuming i would need a whole new setup XD

regards

that's all you really need to do, your pc is still good, the stock speed of the CPU is probably holding back that 3870X2.

maybe a SSD? if you want some fun.

Hehe how much fun we talking? enough to increase gameplay or does this not contribute as much as other components?

won't do a thing for framerates, but will make the pc more responsive/snappy it will decrease load times between levels of games and similar.

Hmm could be a possibility once i get this system stable, last question now i promise :P Would the new RAM make it better? Could i not buy one more crucial ballistix stick to make up the 4gb ( would it be the same performance?) also would getting a corsair H20 cooler make me clocking the cpu easier?

the new ram will have a higher maximum speed rating, allowing you to overclock it further without it throwing a wobbly.

if you got an extra stick, It would have to be a matching one for what you already have.

and a decent cooler will always help to keep the remodel under control when your cranking the hz and volts up.

Ok bud ive overclocked my CPU to 3GHZ, and it is all stable.Im unfortanatly however still getting the FPS lagg in call of duty MW2, Its quite weird really because the game starts and i get 5 minutes of gaming fps lagg free and then after that something happens and i get decreased frames through the whole round.

Is this really all down to me having 3GB of RAM or could they be something else causing it to suddenly decrease in frames?

Regards

If you're going to reinstall Windows, try get your hands on a 64 bit copy. Your existing key will work so you wouldn't need to buy it again.

Yep, crank up that Q6660.

have my Q6600 oc to 3.55GHz and I've just upgraded my 8800GTX to a single 5870.

Blew my old 8800GTX away with some of the benchmarks. Some of the uber settings seemed to remain static in the results which suggest a slight bottleneck. Overclocking th 5870 from stock to 900MHz really confirmed this as the results were unchanged. Don't let that put you off. My fallout 3 benchmarks showed a 47% increase on minimum frame rate. :) well happy.
