So I've decided to finally start upgrading my pc, it wasn't doing too well.

I've recently upgraded to an RX 580 8gb and decided to buy assassin's creed origins. But the frame rate on High was really unstable and its still around 30/40 on medium.. Is the rx 580 just not cut out for newer games or is it something else like my processor?

And if it is my processor what is a good upgrade? I was thinking Ryzen 5 2600? (and what motherboard to go with the Ryzen if that's a good choice? B450 Tomahawk?)

My current build:
GPU- RX580 8gb
Power Supply - evga g2 650
CPU- i5 3570k
Mobo- Asus p8z77-v l
8gb ram

Thanks

If you have the budget then by all means go all in on Ryzen, a new board and 16GB ram. Personally I’d save your money, do as @heatonpkmassive has advised and OC that chip and get another 8GB of RAM. Then get a big capacity SSD drive for Windows and some games. You’ll notice a marked difference in day to day usage.

It won't run them at super ultra settings, but the experience will be decent enough I'd say. The 580 is a good midrange card.

The above of course depends on your resolution, I'm presuming 1080p as that's what the majority of users run.

Agree entirely. In terms of bang for buck, this suggestion is where it's at. But as MissChief says, if money is no object then buy new.

Oh and get another 8Gb of RAM. That's what I did, bought second hand. It's not even the same RAM, it's Corsair Vengeance memory but the originals were 1.5v for 2133Mhz, the new ones are 1.65v for the same value. So I just back them off to 1600Mhz for stability and so that the second set can get by with 1.5v. Works fine.

That's only for an Intel system though, RAM speed is really important in a new Ryzen system so should be taken into account should you go that route, although PiKe has sorted you out there in the comments above.
