Hi guys,

I'm fairly unsure as to the best way to proceed and could do with some advise on some new components; my old ATi 6970 just gave up the ghost after two years and I'm looking for a competent replacement for a reasonable price £100-£150 (might be able to stretch if a bit if theres good grounds!). Any other reasonable upgrades you could suggest would be awesome as well - bearing in mind however my budget is very restrictive at the moment!

I'm currently running:

i5 [email protected]
Gigabyte Z68X-UD5-B3
8GB DDR3@670MHz
650W Corsair PSU

I'm not 100% sure of the current setup but that's the best I could find out using CPU-Z!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Is the CPU overclocked?

Do you have an aftermarket cooler?

Do you have an SSD?

What case do you have?

What games do you play/resolution is your monitor?

Here are three competent cards,

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Red £164.99
1 x OcUK GeForce GTX 770 "NVIDIA Reference" 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £161.99
1 x PowerColor AMD Radeon R9 285 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £139.99
Total : £479.87 (includes shipping : £10.75).

The 960 includes a free game, the 770 I think is a bit stronger overall.

No the CPU isnt Overclocked - it does have an after market cooler on it but I can't remember what its designation is; I got it in a previous bundle about a year and a half ago along with the motherboard and the CPU. I'm using a 128GB Samsung 830 Series SSD and the case is a mid case Coolermaster 50cm x 21cm x 43cm (LxWxH) I can't remember the name

Currently I play CS:GO, Killing Floor 2 and EVE so nothing too stressful!

Resolution is 1920x1080

Thanks for suggesting a couple of replacement graphics cards!

Ok then, so apart from buying a new gfx card all you have to do is get that CPU speed cranked up.

You should find out what case it is, or post a picture so I can maybe identify it to check it what cards it can fit in it, but those cards are not massive by any means.

Thanks very much for the advice - I'll look into getting the CPU overclocked and I'll probably be ordering a new graphics card from you in the next couple of weeks! I've read that the new AMD series comes out soon are the prices of the older cards likely to come down?

Cheers!

Also you dont have to jump straight in at 4.5Ghz, try 4.0 or something a little over first, reduce the vcore mentioned to compensate for not going so high.

Prices are hard to say, rumours are that many of the 3 series are just rebrands of whats out now, so you may end up paying more for the same card with a new number and a slight speed increase.

Thanks for the help, got my core clocked at 4.6GHz and its stable - yay! Also going to put in an order for the 770 tomorrow :D
