Can anyone give me some help/suggestions:

1. Installed USB3 card
2. Installed drivers
3. Device manager claims this device is working properly (NEC chipset card)

However, connect an external drive and it doesnt mount (using the supplied USB3 cable). Plug the same drive and same cable into the MB's USB2 port and it works.

I am stuck.

Have you tried any other USB device in that port?

Yes, if I plug an older USB2 drive/cable into the card, nothing happens.

Move the cable to the MB and it mounts without any problem.

How can the card "work" but not mount? Some strange hardware problem?

I had a similar issue, and it was the failure of the card to suppkly the additional power required. Did you also plug in the secondary power from the PSU to the card ?

I am trying to use external 3.5" drives, these come with a PSU and work in the motherboard's USB2 sockets.

The instructions state, its optional. Worth a try?
