Evening folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me in regards to a few issues I'm having with my pc.
The first problem I have is that sometimes when I start up my computer and try and click on a programme it just hangs there and won't do anything until I reset and restart the computer, this has been happening for a while now and I've tried defragging, virus scans, malware scans etc and nothing seems to work.

The second problem I have is all of a sudden youtube videos were loading up extremely slowly and at times the video would just stop right in the middle and it would look like that was the end, you then press the refresh page button and the video would start again and you'd fine that it was actually in the middle of the video.
One thing I did notice at this time was flash player kept crashing so I downgraded it to 10.1 again but even then it's still pretty much the same, it just doesn't crash as much.

The last problem I'm going to bring up is that my blu ray software (Cyberlink PowerDVD) just stopped working. Every time I tried to open a file it would just come up with an error message saying an unexpected error occured and it would close down.

Any advice is greatly appreciated folks as I've now spent close to 3 full weekends trying to find out what's wrong with my computer.

Forgot to mention - Operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate and browsers are Firefox and Chrome and the youtube issue is with both.

I'm really not looking forward to formatting the computer as I can't find a lot of my discs, including the operating system and Office!

you can download iso's of the os and the office program online, just grab them first then burn them, then re-install

Is this really the only way? I'm really hoping I can find other options to try before formatting my computer.
That's really my worst case scenario at the moment.

tbh it just sounds like that would be the easiest option, you have stated you have various software issues with different programs, this is just my advice buddy, bite the bullet, nuke it, your pc will run faster too, once you have sorted it out again to the point where you are happy, make an image of your c: so if you ever have issues again, you can restore to a fresh install with all your apps installed, just make sure you backup any essential data, lord knows iv wiped my own a few times and still forgot to back something up

Is your system overclocked? If so try it with stock settings. I would also run Memtest for a few hours to rule out the RAM as being a possible cause. If your still at a loss then check the HDD or SSD using the appropriate tools from the vendors website.

Have you tried, "Last Known Good Configuration"? (tap F8 a few times just before the Windows screen starts after a reboot) or go back to a Restore Point?

If these don't help I'd have a look in the event logs to see if there's anything obviously wrong regarding services hanging/failing and for anything graphics related. Then if there's nothing glaringly obvious that can be sorted out, and a reinstall of the latest graphics drivers doesn't help, I'd likely bite the bullet too...

Download the ISO for the OS and Office and burn them onto DVDs, take a copy of my docs, vid, pics and bookmarks etc and anything else important and then nuke it, I'm sorry to say.

Pretty much echoing what's been said already really... the thing is, you mentioned in your first post that you've already "spent close to 3 full weekends trying to find out what's wrong." In that time you could probably have formatted and be more or less back to a fully working configuration, even allowing for backing up and restoring of data files, and all the personalisation and customisation of various apps which might need to be reinstated.

You could easily spend the same time over and over again trying to patch up your broken system, and the chances are you'll still end up having to format anyway.

The official ISOs for Windows and Office are easily obtainable, so as long as you have valid product keys that shouldn't be a problem.

^^ before you bother with that, check event log for any HDD or HDD Controller errors, normally Event ID 7 or similar.

OP have you run Malwarebytes, combofix etc?

Thanks for all your help guys, I didn't manage to get a chance to check all the hardware, I am however going to replace my hard drive with a new SSD.
I'm also planning on updating to Windows 8 so hopefully my problems will be resolved by that.
I did need a complete clear out of my system anyway and I suppose this is probably the ideal time.

Anyway just wanted to drop in and say thanks for the help it was really appreciated! :)
