Hey all,

I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather have an android phone than the 4s that I currently have!

I previously had the following

HTC desire
HTC desire HD
HTC sensation

The htc sensation is hopeless unless you hold it a specific way so I don't want another one of these.

I looked at the galaxy s3, but its too big for me :( Can you guys suggest something slightly smaller? I can't stand HTC's repair service but willing to give them another go if they make a handset worth the risk!

HTC One S seems to be very popular at the moment. Dual core but the latest and greatest dual core. Performs better than all the quads I'm led to believe. SIII, HTC One X and One S seem to be the best phones out at the moment. Could wait until some newer devices come out, latest Nexus series etc.

<3 You Feek.

The One X I am put off by due to the non user changeable battery. Have HTC fixed their antenna location? The sensation they sent me as an 'upgrade' after fudging my repairs 10x in a row couldn't be held like a phone!

Pretty much what Macky said, the One S sounds just perfect for you although only if storage is not an issue, you get 10GB for films, tv episodes, photos etc. and 2.21GB for apps. Can see my review of it below in sig :)

Have no problems with the "death grip" that some phones have.

You can't remove the battery either, but it has the best battery life there is (4-5 hours on screen time with auto brightness and 1-2 days usage from one charge [could probably get 3 days out of it, if usage is split up]), so it really isn't an issue ;)

If storage is an issue then the GS 3 is the better option (if you can get use to the size) and your only option really or you will have to go to the previous gen. of android phones, so the GS 2, still a great mobile though and keeps up with the flagships of this year.

Tough choice to make, I like Htc sense... Infact I loved the phone, but I couldn't even make a call at home the signal was that bad !

How is The Htc one s compared to the sensation?

Thanks for your replies guys

HTC One X. I had the Desire HD and HD2 before that.

Very happy :). It's also still available on £36pm for 12 months through P4U which works out cheaper than buying the handset SIM-free.

It's way better than the Sensation. If you think the S3 is too big then there's no point considering the One X, it's just as big.

The One S and Galaxy S 2 are your only options, but really you're shooting yourself in the foot by not getting the S3, have you actually tried one or are you just assuming it's too big?

Having said all that, the Sensation shouldn't have any potent signal issues, so yours must have been faulty.

Just to echo what robbo said, better in every area! (apart from lack of SD :p)

If you loved sense (sense V4 is a massive improvement) and aren't fussed on rooting and flashing ROMs then sense/one S would be better than the GS 3 for you I think.

EDIT:

To answer your question regarding signal, people seem to have some problems regarding the signal (more so the data connection), however, there are people that don't have any problems with it. I get good signal wherever I am in Belfast and data speeds are alright (2MB-4MB dll and about 2MB dll) and if I enable GSM (G/E connection) only mode instead of WCDMA (H/3 connection) and WCDMA/GSM mode, I get a stronger and more consistent signal then.

Could always try it out and if the signal is poor for you, return it within 7 days and go for something else :)

I held the S3 for a few seconds and just thought jesus this is huge! Problem is though, I'm coming from a 4s which I believe is 3.5" screen?

As I said, I previously had the HTC sensation, and whilst I was made up with the phone, the lack of signal here really did my tree!

I'd have another sensation over the GS3 for the HTC sense, but my head says the S3 would be the better purchase?

Thanks again guys

If you want a better and bigger screen as well as more storage then go for the gs 3. The only other areas where it is better is that it has nfc, better 1080p recording, slightly better audio and a much better gpu.

It is a more complete package than the s and x.

The signal could be an issue or it might not (with the s), I and others in the s thread have no problems with signal and a few others do, actually I think only 2 people do.

If you really like sense though then the S or X (if you can get use to the size as well) are the better options, sense is far prettier and more functional overall, just a much more enjoyable experience imo. Touchwiz has loads of gestures and some features, however, they have been ported as app/apks already and so work on every phone now, the same won't happen with sense stuff.

The only areas where the x is better than the s, is a better and bigger screen, slightly better gpu, more storage and nfc. The s has a better feel/design/looks imo, much better battery life, much better cpu, better audio.

Damn it mate!! You're not helping me decide here! Do you think the s would be considered a downgrade from my 4s?

The clarity of the s3 screen was pretty impressive I must say! Have been given a desire with a broken screen so perhaps that can remind me of what I loved about Htc so much when I fix it!

Haha :D :p

Imo nope, a good and very worthy upgrade overall, the only downgrade would be for the screen in terms of sharpness;

The size of the screen is much better and I personally prefer the vibrant colours and pitch blacks of amoled screens, however, it isn't as sharp or clear as the 4s screen. The X screen is the closest you will get to it for quality and colours followed by the gs 3 screen for sharpness and of course it has more vibrant colours etc. Which I prefer :p

Feels much much better in the hand compared to the Iphones.

It has a much better cpu, cpu is better than the quad in the x and gs 3

A better gpu as well.

Can't comment on battery life for the 4s, never used one for long enough so no idea how it would compare to the s with my usage, but I get 4-5 hours on screen time spread across 1-3days of heavy usage (can see my review thread for details and screen shots on that), pretty much the best there is for Android phones excluding the razr for obvious reasons :p

Software is personal preference, I hate ios :p Sense v4 is great, I hated the version on the desire stock 2.2 and am the sort of guy who tweaks away with the phone replacing all the apps with the 3rd party ones, however, I haven't done that with sense v4, have kept the majority of sense stuff as it is so good that not even 3rd party apps match the quality of sense v4 apps imo. The apps that I speak of are the camera, dialer, gallery, calendar and sms app (go sms etc. Are better overall but I just like the simple style of sense sms:)) I have replaced the stock launcher with apex launcher and custom widgets etc. Though as the sense launcher consumes more RAM and the app drawer is **** imo but if those areas where improved I honestly think I would go back to it as the widgets are great and better than what I am using currently except for snowstorm weather :p most accurate weather app for me :p

I would also stick to the sense browser If it matched the same speed of quick ics browser and allowed me to customize the quick ics controls.

It does come down to personal preference the software, so you will have to have a good long play with sense v4 to see what you think :)

The camera is pure quality, amazing Ui to it and loads of effects and features, the best one being slow motion recording :D :p You have zero shutter lag and the recording of 1080p footage is good, however, a bit jerky and not great light metering compared to the 4s and gs 3, overall the camera is better than the 4s and that includes quality of photos.

You also get 1GB of RAM

I haven't heard enough of the 4s to judge the audio myself, but according to gsmarena the s has the cleanest audio output they have ever heard, the only device that beats it is the gs 3 and only by a tiny bit.

Think that is the main areas covered.

Btw sorry if some of that doesn't make sense, was typed from my phone whilst lying in bed :p

The S3 is the best phone money can buy right now. You won't regret buying the very best phone. I understand your concern about the size but as a Note owner trust me you get used to it pretty quickly. I don't buy into the sense/touchwiz argument either, both are fine and there are replacement launchers, messaging apps, cameras, etc if there is anything at all you don't like. The joys of Android!

If the S3 really is too big for you then go with the S2, it's still a huge phone but you'll be suprised how quickly you get used to it and after a few weeks the 4s will seem like a childs toy in comparason
