help what is my cpu speed

i am having problems with my q6600 which is either overclocked or underclocked. the problem is i can not determine the speed of the cpu since i get conflicting readings from different programs

CPU-z version 1.40 gives 315*7
bios gives 315*9
coretemp beta 0.94 gives 405*7

both coretemp and the bios reading result in speed however cpu-z and the bios has the correct FSB that i set in the bios.

the board is an abit AW9D-MAX with bios version 15 and i have 4x1 GB ocz platium rev2 RAM

the previous cpu was a E6300 with a 7 times mulitiplyer and the CMOS was not cleared when the Q6600 was installed, bios update was done with E6300 in and speed step is disabled in the bios

can anyone help me either to determine my cpus speed or explain why i get such varied readings

the latest version of cpu-z and coretemp gives the same readings as the previous versions

Have you checked your BIOS to see what the multiplier is set to?

99% sure its turned off since all cpu features are disabled

do you need to clear the cmos if you install a new cpu because my post screen seems to tell me i have a intel core2quad @1.86GHz with a 7x multiplier (the speed being that of my E6300 at stock)?

It wouldn't do any harm to clear the CMOS.

clear the CMOS then re disable speedstep and try again
