Hi all,

Just been playing on my new build, I've been getting loads of these white dots appearing and disappearing, flashing mostly and re-appearing in random places. Any ideas? They're not dead pixels or to do with the LED monitor I recently purchased as I tried it by linking to my laptop via the same HDMI cable.

No I don't unfortunately, I bought this from Overclockers (my entire build) reckon I could send it back for a replacement? I've only been playing games for a few days, nothing heavy.

Edit: this is my first build so, I have no spare parts around to test it. :-(

As the monitor works fine using the same cable it does suggest it's the graphics card.

Is this a pre-built system?

If it is then you can take advantage of the warranty package:

- Full 12 Month collect and return warranty
- Each specification is assembled from handpicked components for compatibility and stability
- Telephone, web note and forum technical support

If you bought components then it looks like it's the graphics card you need to return.

As a final check you could try connecting to the integrated GPU (motherboard output) if you system supports it.

I don't have an integrated port. Looks like I'll have to return it, how do I go about arranging a replacement? It's not a prebuilt system just bought all the parts myself.

You'll need to request an RMA for the graphics card.

Send an RMA WebNote.

Try connecting your PC to your monitor using a different connection, DVI, VGA or DisplayPort if your card /monitor have the necessary connections.

You could also check by connecting the PC to your TV if it has a HDMI connection.

I'd also try using a different HDMI lead if possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried what you've suggested and I still see the dots flickering, I've been playing games all day so I'm guessing it's related. I've filled out the form as per your advice. How do the returns work? does someone from a courier come collect it with a new card ready? or do I arrange the return? Just as I use this for working from home too.

You'll need to return it to OcUK at your own expense.

They should send you instructions.

I'd make sure to use a recorded and insured method to send it back just in case.

If it tests as faulty then they'll send you a new one and you can ask for your initial postage to be reimbursed.

Out of interest what's the spec. for the rest of the components you bought?

MSI HD 7850 Twin Frozr III OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
AMD Bulldozer FX-6 Six Core 6100 Black Edition 3.30Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail
ASRock 970 Extreme4 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002)

Just tested this morning after having the machine off all night but to no avail. Still seeing the dots, had to come to work this morning so couldn't test further.

Are you sure the cable is pushed firmly in and screwed them in? I had this on one of my monitors and after fiddling with the cable, it sorted it.

I'm using a HDMI cable, it's pushed in firmly, also tried a different cable. I'd like to think that was the problem, because now I'll be without a card for a week+. The RMA got approved so it'll be sent off today and hopefully I'll get a new one soon.

Yeah so I've been reading, that's why I bought my build from them with the exception of a few bits and bobs (like the case, PSU) which I just got from a local store near my house. I'll be using them for all future purchases.

So yeah, I've sent it off and the waiting game begins, I had a feeling a couple of days into using the card it was on it's way out, the card was starting to lag within games that I'd previously played and it shouldn't lag in.

Strange, hopefully it'll get sorted soon, will post my experiences :-)

Sounds like it was overheating.
Artifacting is usually a giveaway. The card starting to lag suggests throttling.
Perhaps the stock cooler had a bad contact or something?

Could be wrong... Good luck with a replacement.

That was one of the main things I made sure of, I made a topic about it on here asking and making sure it was operating at the right temperature. With I being a new build I made sure I kept a close eye on the temps, the card was idling at 25 and on full load was around 45-50, sometimes hitting 52.

I was told they can operate into the 80s and still be fine.

I can't see it being the cause of the issue, I was told it should be fine as I'm not planning on overclocking that's why I bought the OC edition from here. A friend built an identical system to me at the same time and hasn't seen any issues with his (as of yet anyway).
