the laptop powers up for about 2 mins then complety cuts out. i got a new battery and a new charger for it and still having the same problem.

Any advice guys??? :cool::cool::cool:

Reseating the memory will involve powering off the machine and taking a cover off the back with a screwdriver. Take memory module(s) out and put them back in.

Overheating cpu is a lot more technical. How old is the laptop? Can you hear the cpu fan spinning up at all?

will try that mate its really quiet and not much heat coming off it its not actually mine bt id say 4 years old mayb more

does the CPU fan actually work ? Maybe it is overheating and the fan is not coming on to shift the hot air buildup on the heatsink. Perhaps even a dust/muck build up on the HS/inlet/outlet.

Try taking a hairdryer (one with a cool air setting!) and blow (slow speed) into the air intake. Feel at the outlet how much air is coming out, and also power it up to see if this makes a difference ?

the fan is spinning for around 2 seconds then stoping

Sounds like the fan has gone then. Quite weird it comes on for 2 sec before stopping though. Does the laptop have an override setting on one of the function keys ? It may be marked as silent mode, basically you want to turn that off if it does. Silent mode tries to minimise the fan use by slowing it down (dropping the voltage to it) - it may be doing it too much.

The hairdryer test shows there is no blockage, or it may also have dislodged something that was there already.

yeah still cuts out with air blowing threw it, tried the silent mode button with no luck.

I am afraid then it will probably need expert eyes, and to be honest with the prices of a new netbook of better spec than yours, it would be better to swallow hard and go for a new one. (Unless you know someone confident enough to start taking it apart and looking for a problem).

It is not unusual for fans to turn themselves off after a few seconds on startup. If the cpu is cool enough, there is no need to waste battery power on running fans.

Have you reseated the memory yet?

You may need to replace the fan. The cpu lives under the copper square on the left. Heat passes along the copper pipe to the fan and outlet. Simple job, if the laptop does not have bespoke parts.

Here is a pic of the laptop's memory. Take it out and put it back in.
