Help with a camera problem

Hey guys,
I lent my sister my compact digital camera to use for one of her uni parties and she told me she accident dropped my camera when she was uploading her photos.

Problem with the camera is that it can't take any photos.I believe its the lense that is the problem because the LCD works fine and so does everything else. Is there any proper way of diagnosing if its actually the lense and what is broken?
I assume its probably not worth repairing the lense if its the problem as I can get another digicam?

You will need to be a little more specific?
What is causing the fact you cant take photos? does you get an error message on the screen, or does the 'lens' not focus? what exactly looks like its stopping it? If the lcd works, can you see a picture, can you zoom in and out.

Run us through the process.
 
It auto focuses fine,the zooming seems to work(you can feel the zoom moving inside of the camera.Basically when you take a photo it produces a black image oh and as the LCD is the viewfinder the view is also black. The photos I took to see if it works are also black.Which I believe is cos the lens is somehow broken.
Oh and no error messages come up.
